Less than a year. It was a 1985 fiero SE 2.8 Had 40k on it when I bought it for ~$1500

I put 3,000 in one month. It was worth it. I would take 60-80 mile drives after work every day just because i loved it.

I guess my next question is if anyone want's some parts? i'd be happy to give em for the cost of shipping.

Cleaning out the debris in the blower motor ducting should be one of the first things you do to a recently purchased Fiero - I would say in a lot of instances even before you do a tune-up.

Sorry to see that you lost your beloved Fiero. I feel for ya man but what were you doing driving a Fiero without two fire extinguishers. If you caught the fire in time, the damage would have been minimal. Two fire extinguishers should be considered standard equipment in these cars. As I refuse to lose my $10K investment to fire, I carry three. .

I would never wish this upon you, but I had 2 full size fire extinguishers going on it. It was scary how quickly the car burned. I think when it was all said and done it had a burn time of 4-5 minutes from smoke to fully on fire. Also I made the rookie mistake of looking for the fire, thus feeding oxygen to it.

This was almost your car.

I hit the A/C button and smoke started to pour out of the center of the dash. Luckily I was able to pull the battery cable quickly since it was loose. Pulled out the fan control unit and it stunk so bad. Replaced it with another one and everything was good. It was a scary moment though.

thscientist1, Where did you see the smoke come from and what did it smell like?

Couldn't take that chance. Killed all power instead then took everything apart to find out where the smoke was coming from.

Did you see anything obvious with the hvac controls that could save someone elses car in the future? I know there was a ton of stuff wrong with my car, but this makes me think there is a defect that could cause this when the parts get older. A battery kill switch might not be a bad idea in these cars either.

If the tail lights are salvageable I would like them. I will pay for you time and effort along with the rear turn signal markers.
Sorry about your ride.

Yeah this sucks for sure, sorry man. It definitely gives another reason why doing a dash / interior swap might be advantageous for some.

This problem, plus a few others I have had with my Fiero's with shorting out, has made me start putting battery kill switches in any Fiero I build, to easily kill all power and disconnect the battery from harm (electrical anyway).

OK-

For those of you looking for parts, the taillights were not salvageable; the fireman destroyed them while putting out the fire. Anything else was destroyed last night when some brats came by and beat it with a baseball bat... yeah, they're never coming back after that.

The only thing I have left was what was in my garage. I have a set of 4 original wheels (i'll check for quality and upload a pic when i'm home) and I have what I believe to be a GT decklid with the spoiler. It looks like the previous owner tried to prep it for paint and never got past black. if anyone is interested PM me for pics.
