I'm sure many of you have seen the thread discussing the M90 we will be putting on a 4.9

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/118088.html

Well, our Civic project is finally coming to a close and we will be developing a set of headers for it over the next few weeks. We do have a getrag 4.9 in a Formula sitting right next to it, so the plan is to build them in a way that they would work on both vehicles

They will be using 28"ISH long, 1 1/2" primaries into 3" collectors - 16g mild steel. Hopefully, they would be equal length but the engine bay in the Civic is already cramped. On the Fiero and Civic, the odd bank would go towards the tranny, down, through a muffler and under the oil pain where it's notched. The even bank will drop down and towards the pulley side and should leave ample room for a muffler leaving no need to cut the trunk.

We will be able to make them to follow the traditional Fiero routing, but that will come a while later

All thoughts, concerns and comments are welcome

There are a couple of issues going under the oil pan. Clearance is one. You have to be clear of the pan, so your 1.5" pipe will likely be a 2" space under the oil pan. That leaves it pretty low. The other issue is heat. You really want all that header heat feeding your oil sump?

I have true duals and they are 32" x 1.5" and believe me, they throw a whole lot of heat, even coated and wrapped.

In the eldorado and seville the front manifold runs underneath the notch in the oil pan, which could be a big reason for the factory oil cooler. The headers will not be under the oil pan as it will already be 3" by the time it gets there

Many people including myself have routed the exhaust this way already with no issues

Danyel's thread said "I am trying to get in touch with Dave "FriendOfYours" "

It is about a missing 4.9 valve cover. It had nothing to do with fabbing true duals. My point stands

Try to pick up a set of 4.5 manifolds. Unlike the solid cast iron ones on the 4.9, they are stainless and have a welded on flange. They are a great base for custom built 4.9 headers. Just cut off the flange and use a header kit to make your own.

Here is a shot of my old set to give you an idea of what they look like clean.

Rear: (modified to remove center outlet, both setup for dual O2 sensors)

Early. Up to 89 I believe. I think I took mine off of an 86 deville.

He's making 4.9 headers that will fit his civic and the formula in the original picture.

This thread is getting far too technical. People stop complaining.
