Not sure if this is the right area for this question but I have noticed alot of custom graphic signatures around. Anyone interested in sharing how to make one? Thank you, Cody
How is purely up to the artist... usually with a good photo to start... the rest is just fooling around till you get something that looks good... I use the GIMP for most of my stuff... but obviously Adobe Photoshop or even the Vista/7 version of Paint can get you where you are going depending on the look you are going for...
Here is one I did for member Sabooo
And here is the one I use for my GA...

Mostly you will need your PIC file hosted on a web server somewhere and you'll link to it via your profile ... I use a PNG format because of its transparency capabilities ... If you have any questions you can PM me I've done over 10 siggys for members here

This is the biggie. If you're wanting a somewhat 'stylish' signature that's not just a simple image rectangle you need to utilize a image editing program that can support setting a transparency layer. This also involves saving the file in a format, such as PNG or GIF, that will carry over the transparency layer without sacrificing the data. The problem is if you attempt to save it as a common JPG/JPEG or BMP, you lose the transparency information because these formats compress images into one single layer to save space. Because of this, you'll need something more than MS Paint to make it work.
I use Photoshop personally. You edit the top layer how you want, then set the transparency. I need to resize mine though. It's a bit big so I don't use it as much.

Apparently you need to have transparency to be stylish?
Also, according to the rules of the forum, the signatures are supposed to be no more than about 6 lines of text tall. And while not a rule per say, but generally the less busy or high contrast it is the less distracting and annoying it can be for other users.
I use GIMP personally, because I am not as into pirating software as I used to be... and I don't have $600 laying around for software I am not going to get paid to use.

No, but very often people have asked how members create signatures that aren't simply rectangle images, and my explaination is a good start. I guess I shouldn't have worded it in that manner - more like, transparency signatures can be more work that adding to a standard image.

Yep. It's all in the presentation. It's just two different styles. I don't think my sig would work at all with a background on it.

Victory is mine! Seems a little large still. I'll have to alter the pixels to make it wider and less tall. Seems alright for now until I can get some really nice pictures and play around again. Thanks Delorean!!
