Is there anyone here that does CF work and considered making sail panels? I'm thinking about covering my sails (notchie) in the new 3M DI-NOC CF vinyl but I really don't like using fake carbon. I would think CF sails would look pretty sweet, especially on a fastback even though it would be tougher than the notchies. Kinda like Audi R8's with the carbon sideblade.

Any thoughts?

Are you talking about just the actual glass or the whole assembly including the frame? I don't own a notchie so I have no idea how the sails are put together.

Jimmy at fiero fiberglass is selling a CF look sail panel now. Its not real CF though cost would be through the roof for the real stuff.

I'm thinking just making the inside piece that is normally acrylic (i think) in carbon. Making the whole assembly including frame would be rather difficult but I think just the curved insert wouldn't be very difficult at all. I think sail panels in raw carbon would look really nice.

The inside shiny panel with the SE on it is just a piece of acrylic that is attached to the frame with double-sided tape; replace that with a nice carbon fiber panel would be gorgeous!!!
"Too much exposed CF and things get... tacky." Actually too much exposed FAKE carbon fiber gets tacky. . .

is this tacky? . . .

I think it is a matter of personal taste. I think it looks tacky, but the automobile's design is quite nice. Then again, I am sure it was done more for weight savings on the above and not merely the OMG effect.

I have to agree with TD37. Fake or on who cares components (such as fuel doors) = lame.

Koenigsegg CCXR Edition = truly awesome. But I'm not sure if the CF has anything to do with it.
