Let the drama begin...

I woke up this morning to find this email in my inbox...

Dear James Schulz,

We appreciate the fact that you chose PayPal to send and receive paymentsfor your transactions. However, after a recent review of your account, it has been determined thatyou are currently in violation of PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy. Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for activities that involve gambling and/or gaming activities, including but not limited to casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, lottery tickets, certain games of skill, and other ventures that facilitate gambling.

The complete Acceptable Use Policy can be found at the following URL:https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/AcceptableUse_full&locale.x=en_US To learn more about the Acceptable Use Policy, please refer to our Help Center page here:https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?&cmd=_help

We are hereby notifying you that it has been determined that you are inviolation of PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy regarding your sale of raffle tickets on https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/082370.html. Please refer to transaction #: 8WN543297U6297810 In order to comply with the Acceptable Use Policy and avoid the limitation or closure of your account, you will need to:

1. Remove those items from your website that violate PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy. For example, raffle tickets.

2. Submit the online Acceptable Use Policy affidavit.

To appeal your limitation, login to your account and select the "Resolution Center" link. On the next page select the "Resolve" button(s) located in the Steps to Provide More Information section and follow the applicable instructions.

This is not intended to be an all-inclusive review or list of your Internet sites in violation. Furthermore, the violations of the Policy described above are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that all transactions comply with the Acceptable Use Policy.

For more information about the status of your account, please log in to your PayPal account. We encourage you to login and return your account to good standing as soon as possible. Failure to respond by 8/28/2010 will result in the further escalation of this issue. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Please understand that this is a security measure meant to help protect you and your account.

We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Department at aup@paypal.com.

Sincerely,PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Department

Due to this unexpected problem, I have notified all those that bought a ticket and all money has been refunded.

This raffle really isn't about the Ground Effects. It's about helping a fellow member in their time of need. The Ground Effects are just an incentive.

I might just do that..

Your very welcome.

I wish you the best of luck with your new life and I'm glad you took the leap of faith. I was in your shoes back when I was 17. It's scary but you will come thru this a better man.

So sad. Thank you for the refund. I gave already, and will continue to monitor Kris' needs. You got to admit, I was looking pretty good for winning the raffle.

Man, it stinks that they did that. I appreciate any, and all help, even if it's just a kind word.

Does this mean that someone complained?

I knew that was going to happen (and I'm not the only one), but couldn't say anything for fear of being a party-pooper.
Besides, there was the chance that it wouldn't get noticed.

These things have been tried here before, and unless they were done for a non-profit organization,
they got the same treatment.

I too am sorry, but it's really for a good reason. Thanks for the thought, JimmyS!

Maybe take "donations" instead and after, say a week, you pick a name out of a hat of all the people that donated and they randomly receive these as a "gift". That would work, wouldn't?

Sorry to see that notice from PayPal.

Could some one fill me in as to what is going on? I must have missed something somewhere in the forums. Anyone have a link to what the raffle was helping Chris for?

The short version is that Kris' mom is crazy, Kris wanted to leave but had nowhere to go, so Brad (TwoFatGuys) and his wife offered to let him live with them, Kris's mom went crazy(er), Kris basically left with nothing and the raffle was to raise some money to help get Kris back on his feet away from the crazy.

Check in OT for "the change of my life" and "can anyone meet up Kris as he travels across the country" and "what can I say" threads to cover most of it. The names may not be quite right, but close enough
