I have been poking around a lot of threads and online information on 3800 swaps, and am feeling a little lost in it. There is a ton of info, and I am struggling to cut through it all. I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a few things.

In particular, I want to find some info which provides good instructions and pointers for mounting and installing a 3800 setup so I can get a good handle on what is needed from a parts standpoint, and what is engine and trans into the car and working.

Thanks!

I think the biggest problem is that there are 100 ways to do it. When I started my swap, the problem wasn't that there wasn't enough info, but TOO much..

So, I just started putting things together and seeing where everything went. I think the weirdest things I've seen so far are stock 3800 crossover won't play nice with 4-spd muncie shift cables, and I still can't figure out why everybody is so eager to low mount the alternator when the stock location works just fine..

Good luck, be sure to search for darkhorizon's ultimate 3800 swap page, gmtuners.com for electrical info, and a bunch of people's sites for mounting.

When mounting the drivetrain, position the driver's side transmission output shaft in EXACTLY the same position as the stock Fiero transmission output shaft.

This will enable you to use Fiero manual trans driver's side axles on both sides (if using the 4T65E-HD) with only one inner tripot change and ensure that the drive axle geometry is correct.

Fab your own mounts if you have the skills, if not, make cardboard templates and have a local welder or buddy fab them for you. Don't rely on the factory style rubber mounts for the tranny to hold up to the torque of a 3800 SC - they will fail. Make the mounts as solid as you can, urethane or even solid mount if you don't mind a little vibration when stopped.

Check out the pictures of Ryan Glick's mounts at gmtuners.com

Good luck, and don't get discouraged, it's just one step at a time.
