By regular, do you mean 4 cyl?

The 4 cyl notchback and Formula are visually identical. The difference is the Formula has the V6 engine and WS6 suspension tuning. Then there was the GT. No SE model (and because of that, no aero nothcbacks like prior year SE's were).

it's a v6 auto notchie. it doesn't have any visible "Formula" on the car but it looks like a repaint. so notchback + v6 = Formula, right?

Have you checked the RPO codes? W66 is the Formula option code (I think)

no, i saw it for sale. just a picture of an 88 nothcback with v-6 auto. I've been looking for a Formula and this looks like "it". I don't want to ask them if it's a formula, not sure they know what they have. Trying to call them right now to tell them it's sold.

The 8th digit in the VIN will be a 9 if it is a Formula, an R would indicate a 4 cylinder coupe.

Should be a Formula unless someone swapped a V6 into a 4 cyl coupe.

Do you have the VIN? If not, you could ask them for that under the excuse that you want to do a carfax on it.

The VIN will tell you if it is a factory Formula because it will be coded as a 6 cyl. The 8th digit will be a "9" for a V6 (Example, 1G2PE1195JP000000

Edit: Indiana Resto Guy beat me to it this time!

great info + for both of you. Now keep your fingers crossed, good vibes and all that stuff for me. I can't get ahold of the owner. My luck they are outside helping load it on a trailer.

Formula will also have the back-lit 120 speedo and rally gauge pod.
