I found one with 100k on it and I can get the complete drop out for 1,000. It from a 98 buick regal gs and I can hear it run not sure if I can drive it yet I e-mailed him. Does it seem like an ok deal.

I got an okay deal on mine I would say... no tranny though. Same engine, less mileage (60k), same year. Paid 600 bucks without tranny.

Check out my build!

There's a huge difference between 60 000 km and 100 000 mi.

That sounds like a crapload of money for an older engine.

Seriously, aside from a minority of FWD GM enthusiasts, the 3800 SC isn't an engine commonly sought out by performance enthusiasts.

Better to buy from an average person who just wants to get rid of an engine, rather than an enthusiast who knows the 3800 SC is well regarded in the Fiero community.

A used engine is a used engine... I would pay the same for a Cavalier engine. Just because it has more value to you, doesn't mean it has more value on the used engine market.

You can always wait a few weeks before giving that guy an offer. Once he realizes that nobody wants a Buick grandpa-mobile engine, a lower offer ($500 maybe?) should work. To him, anything is better than sending it to the boneyard.

My series 3 with 58000 cost me 450. Another 200 would have taken the trans, which I did not want.

Just hold out a bit longer, I can get you a good setup if you just give me some more time.

$1000 for a 98 is way too much for michigan... You can do better on car-part.com.

I bought mine from a wrecking yard. I was able to see the car drive, see the Odometer and listen to the engine before buying.

I Payed $1200 shipped to my doorstep for the 73k mile Engine, Transmission, PCM and wiring.

I think I made out like a Bandit.

Mine came from a '99 Grand Prix, and the total adds up to around $900. But that includes my gasoline to get it home, my lunch, and so on. It's just sitting in the corner, waiting for me to get done playing with V8s and manual transaxles.

I bought a 97 olds engine and 4t60E (110k) for $200 delivered to my door. I also bought a complete 97 LeSabre Custom with 112K for $225. Replaced the lower intake gasket and plenum. It has been my daily driver for over 3k miles.

At Pick-N-Pull SLC I can get a complete L36 version (non-supercharged) with a 4T65E (non-HD) for under $300. But forget finding the supercharger for that kind of money. Never gonna happen.

I would hold out also! There are much beter deals out there, it just takes some time. Everyone who knows anything about the sc3800 is gunna want a lot for it because its supercharged... woo hoo!! I got my series II with 11K with clutch, pressure plate, pcm, and a complete gtp harness for 1,000. Like darkhorizon said, wait and find someone looking to just get rid of one. Or someone giving up on a swap like I did.
