I took a chance & bought one of these.

My console was warped as most of them do. I've been reading how to re-glue the console, then how to glue this cap on.

I found the I could snap this on without glue , and used a plastic clip, (part of a desk drawer) to hold it on the sides. It's on very tight, had to work at sliding it down the console. It is a solid fit.

The flash from the camera make the clip more noticeable than it is in person.

Very nice! Thanks for showing it to us. So it came without the "clips"? How would it have held without them?

I was wondering how these attach. Do they replace the old one, or cover it up?

Even if the old one is all warped and flared on the sides? Or do you have to do some glue work to the old one before installing the cap?

The one under mine is pretty warped and it sits on it with no problems at all. To the average person it looks totally stock.

Thanks , the CD player was very easy. Slide the old out, slide new one in.

Thanks , The instructions tell you to re-glue the stock console together first, then after thats repaired, glue the replacement cap on over the stock console.

I removed the stock console, looked it over, just popped the cap over, then realized if I connect it together at the bottom, I wouldn't need to fix the stock console, . The cap was flared out at the bottom with out the clips.

They should sell these clips with the kit, makes it a five minute fix.

I agree. A very good product.

Here's what the clip looked like. The width was just the right size to grab the back side of the stock console edge and the edge of the new cap.

FWIW, those "clips" are the sliders for hanging file folders in the large desk drawers of newer "assemble-it-yourself" desks like you might find in a box at Wal-Mart.
Older desks have two metal rods that the files hang on. I have more pics of them if anyone wants to see more.
BTW, nice discovery on a quick fix!

Seems I have them in the desk right here at home! Problem is, these are needed where they are. Wonder if they are available online somewhere.

Edit: Here is one place to get 'em. I'll keep looking...

Cheever3000, look on the drawer ends, My desk had them on all four sides, for regular files & long files. I used the end pieces. Just the right size.

The path you posted is showing the correct pieces.
