With many things getting jumbled in my life now, I feel I may be devoting my time to some of the wrong things at the moment...

I feel that I have painstakingly made sure to help any and all people doing 3800 swaps for the last year or more.. and I think its time I should take a break... In my legacy I hope to complete the "ultimate" thread in my signature a bit...

So I am asking that anyone I have helped, used my thread, or were here years before I busted onto the scene like a crazy madman, offer advice on how to make my "ultimate" thread a true ulimate source of information and links, to the point where if anyone posts one of the stupid genaric 3800 swap questions one of my fellow PFF'ers can post the link and end it there (or just answer the question i guess).

The biggest thing I want to do is possibly just make a new thread posting the "latest greatest" trends... I wouldnt mind updating it every so often.. and I have considered making a stand alone website... but I feel it would be easier to do here with the help of others...

I am going to cut my post here for now... Comment please.

I'd recommending putting your thread into the favourites section and keeping it for reference.

Perhaps a link or a repeat on the Michigan forum too.

I am not going too far.. I just want to be able to join a limited amount of conversations in the tech area... aside from feeling the need to post in every thread that I think I need to...

If you decide you want a standalone website, let me know, I have a colocated server. No cost, except what it cost to register the domain name (like $7 to $9/year).

I don't think you ever had a Torch--Maybe at the most a 3 dollar flashlight from the Dollarr Store.

What a lot of guys don't understand is the amount of work to obtain information on a mod and the amount of work to put together some information to share with others pursuing the mod down across North America and around the world.

It takes a strong sense of community and caring for our hobby and our Fiero community to take the time and effort to experiment with a mod, fail, do it again, and document the pitfalls and required resources for someone else's benefit who you've never met and who you are still trying to help.

I'm not doing a 3800 swap, but I recognize the value of the information compiled and the caring that goes on to let it all hang out in a public forum.

Thanks for doing this Darkhorizon.

I agree....thanks Dark. You have answered many of my 3800 questions, and very quickly most the time too.

On this topic, I'm a web developer 9-5, and my girlfriend's a graphic designer. The three of us could pull together assuming you wanted to file all the information out.

I'm wondering if there should be a department on this website. I don't mean a thread, but a category on the main page which could indicate something like "Mod library" or the like. If a web designer would do up a page to assist Cliff, and it could be loaded on this web address, it would be beneficial and save alot of searches.

I know that Fierosails has this and it might be duplicating, but, it is a thought.

I've been baking on this idea and similar ones for a while now. I thought of starting up just a detailed site minus the forum aspect so it'd be all "facts" and less random bickering (love you guys)... but in the end I don't think that's the best route. I also thought of a dedicated forum for just engine swaps, but I don't like that either (and it's been done, motorswap.org). I also don't like the idea of a forum channel in Pennock's dedicated to swaps because I don't think individual posts can organize the data properly, even if they're stickied... and there'd be a million stickied threads. I don't like a seperate forum site, because it just splits up the community. There's no reason to take the people to another site, and I don't want to detract from the community Cliff's already built. That being said, it'd be really nice if there were more organization of the data on swap how-to. (lightbulb pops up) What if we set up a swap Wiki? I like the sound of that. It could be divided per swap type, etc. Just a general "Fiero mod wiki", with brake swap info, lists of vendors, pictures, instructions, etc. Man I really like the sound of that. I can get the whole thing set up and running if you guys like the sound of it just say the word and I'll get to work. I've been itching for a Fiero web project...

Not bad. The editing feature of Wiki is a problem though, if somebody doesn't like the way the mod was done or has a beef and wants to cause a problem. It would require policing, which, Cliff is very good at BTW

Dark. Start your own website, present your picture of the story and post important contributions from other crazy 3800Sc swappers. I would not worry about making comments on posts. This forum is here to share in the open exchange of Ideas and Opinions. Sometimes these are correct and sometimes they are not but they are here to generate discussion and towards this end that purpose has been fulfilled.

thats what i was thinking. some guy who isnt a succesfull DIYer and decides 2 screw with everyone else could prolly wreck a few peoples swaps easily. or more likely, some teen finds it and decides to screw with a bunch of people (no offense to teenagers, im one myself. u all know someone who would do that tho)
yes Cliff is very good about policing the forum. thanks Cliff, just in case u read this

I can set up rules for editing so you have to have your changes approved, or you have to have an account for so long before you're allowed to make edits, so shenanigans shouldn't be a problem. By the way, I've registered fierowiki.com and will be setting up some wiki software on my company's server... might have something up tomorrow. =D Hopefully we can get enough people to file away all the info on general stuff. Maybe I can convince Cliff to do some policing. I can try to keep track of it as well. Anyone wanna put votes down on who else would be good to police changes and approve updates?

Edit: May be able to lock pages so that the creator has to approve the update? Don't know enough about it yet, comparing wiki packages atm.

yes, kinda like Ogre's Cave?

tho, I really like the Wiki-Fiero concept. That would be an excellent addition to the Fiero community.
may endlessly cut down on "Its the ignition module" threads.
