So. I have come to the grills. The car is black. Should i paint the grills flat black gloss black or semi gloss black. I have bc/cc black but they would have to be sanded to bare metal in which I would need a epoxy primer I don't have ($50). I could paint it with Krylon flat or semi flat/gloss for cheap and redo it every couple of years. What to do, What to do.
What do ya'll think?

NAPA sells a automotive trim black, or a auto paint supply shop should also carry it .wich is a bit better quality. The trim paint is a OEM satin finish. Looks factory and wears well in the elements. I prepped mine with a 400 grit wet sand for better adhision.

I used a ceramic 500* for the underside and top ( spray can ) for a base primer. I did sand them prior because of old imperfections. The ceramic paint has somewhat of a primer in it and I did a couple coats of that. Wet sanded the topside with 400 grit lightly then spray for the final coat on top. I used rustoleum gloss black Quart but sprayed it with gravity fed compressor spray gun for that even gloss finish.
They came out good. I like the gloss better than the satin finish ( stock look ).
Yep! That's a Fiero on the Mar-hyde can. That's what you use on the mirrors, belt trim and grills and stuff. Perfect but expensive @ 6-7 dollars a can. Get it at the automotive paint store.

I dont get all the hype about epoxy primer myself but whatever. Standard primer works just fine on properly prepared metal. Anything thats not just steel, like galvanized or aluminum, needs zinc-chromate sealer THEN primer over that. Its worked fine for 100 years on anything metal from wagons to airplanes. Ive only tried it one or two times and saw no benefits myself.

I painted my grills at one time. They started chipping and peeling in short order. I took them and had a body shop paint them. Again they peeled and chipped in short order. I finally broke down and had them powder coated. 5 years later they still look great.
