Hello everyone! This is my first post here. I'm certain it won't be my last. I have every intention of picking your brains for as much information as possible. First let me introduce myslef. My names Kerry, 34y/o, I'm Active duty Air Force, currently stationed at Gunter AFB in central Alabama. I'm married, and my wife and I have 4 kids. I'm an avid car nut, and a wrench head. I've owned multiple cars in my life. Some of the standouts are my '69 Chevelle SS, and my '85 Corvette. I've had to part with both of those, and ended up getting heavily into Offroading. I built 2 BroncoII's, and eventually sold them, and picked up a 91 X-Ploder. I've built it for extreme off roading, and now I'm wanting to get back into cars a bit. So.... I spent the last year shopping around for a Fiero, a car that I wanted since I was a kid. The problem is, it's hard to find a decent one without an outrageous pricetag. That's why the hunt took so long. Well, the wait is over. I found it, and I'll be picking it up when I return from Washington DC. (I'm going to a class up there for the first week in March.) Anyway, here it is. an '86 SE. (early 86) It needs a new clutch but otherwise runs fine. I plan to swap the engine anyway, but I stil haven't decided which engine to swap in. Here's the pics.. BTW, I gave $500 for it.

Ok, being as new to the Fiero world as I am, I'm not sure what "notchie" means. But it sounds like I made a smart buy. I haven't decided which way to go, but I want to go with a V8, and keep the Fiero style. I'm not a big fan of the "kit" cars. It's a Fiero, not a Ferarri, and I plan to keep it as such. I can foresee having some fun with it. Maybe some small interior mods, and a little body work. I still haven't decided what color to go with either. Primarily, it'll be more of a restore I suppose. Thanks for the welcomes! And it's my pleasure to server. I have 4 years left until retirement!

HEHE! Sorry it’s not a fast back or it does not look like a hatch back. Don’t get me wrong I like all Fieros just like the notch in the back better ; )

I got lucky! These were taken about 1/2 mile from my house. I watched the twister roll through from my back door. I was watching the Daytona 500 when I heard the sound of the "train", and went to the door to see what was going on. My jaw dropped when I saw it. Anyway, after it was through, I secured the wife and kids safety, and headed down the road to assist. These pictures are from the next afternoon, after we worked on cleaning up all night. It's still a mess down there now, but it's getting better. Several of the houses have already been razed.

Well, close. 84-87SE's were all notchbacks, 85GT was a notchback, 88 Formula was a notchback. The only fastbacks are 86-88 GTs (no...there is no 86 1/2 GT... GM didn't say there was an 86 1/2 model, the press did and). The 86SE and 86GT are both valid '86 models with the SE being a notchback while the 86GT was a fastback. The confusion comes around with the 85GT which was a notchback and the 86SE, which is the same exact body style as the 85GT... a notchback.
Also, during 86, the 5-speed Getrag became available.. and no... this is not the 86 1/2 GT. The Getrag replaced the 4-speed in the V6 fieros.
If you have an 86-88 fastback, it is a GT.
Anyway... congrats on the car!

An 86 SE with no wing and no luggage rack is somewhat rare, so if you plan on adding a wing in the future, get a different deck lid. Save that one -- someone may pay you some good bucks for a deck lid with no mounting holes in it.

welcome. i see you do not have a spoiler or a luggage rack on the deck lid (the part covering the engine) that is pretty rare so if you do any mods to it, check, recheck and then do it all over again. or get a spare deck lid thats already got holes in it to practice with.
damn pswayne beat me to it.

Well. That's kinda cool. Turns out I already have something "distinguishable" about my ride. Tobe honest, I probably will take your advice and pull the lid and sell it, if anyone is interested. I'll have to do some research first, but probably will end up swapping to the fastback rear clip, if it's not too difficult. I'm highly considering doing a chop to it. I've been looking at a lot of rides here, and the chopped tops are just SIC! I love that look.

fix the clutch and sell the car for $1000, then buy a GT for $1500. you can find the parts to do the swap for 500, but there is a lot of work invovled too.

Average prices I've seen are in the $2500-3K range. I was at a swap meet 2 weeks ago in Atlanta, and found one there, stock 88GT in decent condition, and the guy wanted $7999. Initially, I wanted a GT, but for the price, I couldn't pass this one up.
Seeing the "stinger" has made my day! That's the closest one I've seen so far to my mental image. I planned to do a suicide door mod eventually, if possible, and now it's confirmed possible! My list of mods continues to grow. V8, choptop, suicide doors,....... What next? Custom dash, maybe? I like the guages on my Vibe, maybe I could get a set and incorporate them into the Fiero. Hmmm...... Gears are turning..
