Hi.
I discovered this forum about a week ago and have been reading every evening since.
I finally decided to join.
I don't currently own a Fiero, but hopefully that is about to change.

First a little history...
Back in the August of 1984,a couple months after I turned 16 years old,I was living with my Grandmother and she took me car shopping for my first car.We looked around at several car lots and happened upon the local Pontiac Dealership. As we pulled into the lot,I spotted a white 1984 Fiero sitting in the grass right out front. This was the first time I had ever seen one in person, and immediately fell in love.Well, after some begging and pleading with my Grandmother,I convinced her that I just couldn't live without it.We talked it over with the salesman, and agreed to stop by the next morning to work out the details.I don't think I slept a bit that night.
The next morning,we hopped in the car and headed over to the lot to get the car. When we pulled up,I noticed it wasn't sitting there anymore.my first thought was..."Cool...they are already getting it ready for me!".
Well...I was wrong. As it turned out...some lady from Louisiana pulled up right after we had left the day before...and paid cash for the car.It was supposedly gone, before our salesman knew it(fishy...but oh well).
I was heartbroken.I wandered off, while my Grandmother was talking to the salesman. She told me he said they should have a few more in about 3 weeks.Great...but this meant starting the new school year, with a new license...and no car.Bummer!!!
Fast forward to the night before school started.(about 3 days later)...
That evening,I went to go have dinner with my best friend(it was his birthday). After dinner,he brought me home, and I went upstairs, showered and went to bed...still depressed.
The next morning,I got up and got ready for school...headed downstairs, and my Grandmother told me that she wasn't feeling well...that I could take her car to school instead of her dropping me off.(woo hoo...now I get to show up in a '79 Olds 98...won't I look cool.lol.
I walked out in the garage, and what was siting there next to her car,but a BRIGHT RED FIERO!!!!!!!!!!!
I almost wet myself.I was shaking so bad I almost cried. She had really pulled one over on me...and even had my buddy involved as an accomplice.
Turns out that this had been planned since she was talking to the salesman that day.The red car was in the back and hadn't been prepped yet.Other than the color...it was identical to the white one. They dropped the car off right after we left for dinner that night.
I drove the car from then till late 1987,and decided to sell it(hindsight...a big mistake.).I had bought a sportbike, and the car sat parked all the time.
I regretted selling it about 10 seconds after it drove away.
Over the last 20 years...I've come close to buying another Fiero several times..but never bit the bullet.
My wife's big argument is...no room for me,her, and both kids.

Last Thursday,I get a phone call from my buddy(the same one from High School...we're still good friends).
He tells me that August 1st...he and his family are moving to Africa to do Missionary work.
He said that the main reason he called is to tell me that he's GIVING me his '86 Fiero GT Fastback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It isn't running,and needs some TLC....but hey...it's a Fiero!.

So...looks like I'll be a Fiero owner once again pretty soon.

I've really enjoyed reading all the posts here...and hope I can fit in.

Thanks for providing a place to explore the addiction that is..."Fiero".

BTW...here's the only pic I have of my '84 Fiero(taken about mid '85 I think)...

DCFox.....welcome back to the fold. Owning a Fiero is like making a reservation in the Hotel California....you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave Glad you're back, and now you can enjoy getting this car back on the road.

Great story....kinda reminds me of my first Fiero. Bought new in 1986 while in college...carried me through college and into my first year of marriage and a ton of fun times in between. And in an act of stupidity, I traded it in 1990. I didn't realize just how much of my wonderful youth was locked up in that car as I was handing the keys over 17 years ago. I regretted it a day later, but it was too late...it sold the day I traded it.

Took me 14 years, but in 2004 I adopted an 86 GT, and then later an 88 coupe that I did a 4.9 swap into.

Anyhow, glad you've found your way home. Anything we can do to help you with your new car, let us know.

Welcome!

I am also a new member to the forum, currently fixing up my first car (also a red fiero). I've been reading this forum for a while now, and you can find out pretty much anything you need to know about Fieros!

Good luck with your 84'! She's a beaut!

So, if you can, give your Grandma a call and let her know. (Mine is one of those people from my early adulthood that I really miss!)

Congrats on the project, and welcome.

Brian...I wish I could. She passed away in early 2000.She was truly my life saver as I was heading down a bad path until she took me in and straightened me out.I lived with her from my 16th Birthday until right after graduation in 1986.We talked almost daily. In 1996 I practically moved back home, when my wife and I moved into the townhouse right next to hers.We lived there until a couple years after she passed away...then bought a house out in the country.(better school district for our kids).

I'm hoping to have alot of fun with this 86 GT once I get it.I'm probably just going to swap a 3.1 in it to get it running.

I'm really wanting a V8 Fiero...but I want that car to be a 84-85 notch.

To tell you how bad I have this bug again...I'm considering selling my other project car...a 1970 Big Block Challenger SE.

Well...It's finally time to bump this thread back up.
I brought the 86 GT home yesterday.
It needs more work than I thought, but oh well...it was free.
Now comes the task of tracking down parts and an engine.(anyone have a complete 3.4 they need to get rid of?lol).
Anyway...here's a pic (It looks worse than the pic shows)...

Thanks guys...like I said...it looks worse than that pic shows.

How I got it...
My buddy and his wife are moving out of the country and he gave it to me.

Here's a few more pics...

Hood and front clip are pretty rough...

Both quarter windows are trashed...

Interior isn't too bad...but could use some freshening up along with some new seats...

Drivers side door skin and mirror need to be replaced...

And the engine is toast. It blew a head gasket and overheated pretty bad(that's what I was told)...

Nice car for the price. Certainly worth saving.

I look forward to watching this restoration.

Valve cover isn't engraved, so it's a pre-1987 engine. Also the springs sit like a stock pre-88 GT, exactly like my '86. Could be a coincidence, but I think it was just repainted solid somewhere along the way.

Still, not bad. A prime candidate for an engine swap, David. I love the wheels on that '84 too! I don't know why so many people hate the 84's, and those wheels are actually getting really rare...

Yes...it is an 86 that's been repainted.
It was originally black with the gray bottom.
I did a little exploring on it this afternoon...and noticed that the support that holds the right headlight door in place is all busted up...making the headlight door ride about 1/4" low.Guess I'll be looking for a hood also.lol.

I'm starting to make a list of all the parts I'm going to need to start gathering up.

Curious...was there ever a drivers side headlight door produced that was smooth and didn't have the Pontiac logo recessed into it?
