Very few folks in the affected areas have power. It will be a few days or weeks before we hear from most of them I suspect. I wish the best for all of those affected.

If anyone is in the area or close enough to make contact, please let us know how our Fiero brothers/sisters are doing in the area. Many of us have churches or other groups who would like a lending hand, but we'd need specifics of what people need help with.
I know FocusRush has a project he is working on and it involves our fellow Fiero crew members in that area so if you get a chance to let us know any stories or status, please let us know. Thanks!

This thought has plauged me ever since Monday. I was text messaging with Tress as the storm was raging around them. The flooding was bad and (you are right) that was before the levee broke. Even though I could only text message I could feel their growing sense of concern. But they said they had already contacted authorities, but I have never felt so helpless in my life.
I pray they were rescued and are in that group of people brought to the superdome and are now on their way to Houston. I won't sleep sound until I hear they are okay.

You see it on the news, over and over. But just hearing here from people you "know",is so unreal.. I can't even begin to imagine losing everything.I could live without the fieros, but losing everything on top of it seems so bad. I hope everyone is safe. And hope for a speedy recovery.

one of my dad's friends from work, i think he lives around covington, but he has (had) 2-3. My dad talked to him today and he said he drove home form texas to check damages and drove back, he said he didnt have too much. but he was the guy that got me into fieros and he also had a garage full of parts, so my dad would always bring me things home when we were working on my car.

Damn, Tress can't catch a break. She got run off the forum because of haters, then she came back and now her car is gone, and we haven't heard from her? That REALLY sucks, not only for the Hottie but for everyone there. Anyone have some spare Fieros they could donate to the New Orleans fiero people? Perhaps just so they have something to get around in?
BTW, any news on that movie that was being shot in New Orleans that had the Fiero in it? The one with jscott's car in it. Is the movie finished filming?

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in New Orleans. I will also say a special prayer for my friends here on the forum that we have not heard from, hoping that they are OK.

I pray everything turns out for the best. And hopefully everyone with a nice Fiero had it insured for its actual worth not just blue book.
I was talking with saras dad about this yesterday... is there a way to build a house so that its water proof? Like I know you can get plastic boards (they look like wood but are made out of recycled plastic), and you’d just build the house with those, and between he boards you’d place the same stuff equivalent to plywood. And completely seal the house, then buld the house like normal. But when hurricane came you could just seal up your windows, and sit in side and look at all the water but non of it would be inside... and of course do it to the garage to protect the Fieros.
Again I hope every one comes back to the forum with stories of how magically their Fiero survived.
The only people I envy in this who situation... are the big ticket sellers in the area (tvs, cars, appliances) because every one is going to need new stuff, and with money from their insurance will be buying all new stuff. There’ll be lines out the doors at sears. See look at me always looking at the bright side.

Interesting idea...as an Engineer, I'm always imagining ways to build cool things, but what you suggest would be really hard to do. To make it completely waterproof, and withstand the pressure of the water, it would have to be made out of solid steel. Your house essentially would have to be a submarine. Then you would need an oxygen supply and a way to recycle the air. If you had the resources to build such a structure you would not worry about evacuating you would have many other houses to live in while your beach house is being rebuilt.

Why does it have to be steal... how much pressure is there in 30 feet of water? Most of the houses I saw were covered up to the roof with the roof showing... I only suggested the plastic because its cheap and it doesnt brake down and could easly hold a seal.
I figgure if we can build building to withstand earthquakes... why not floods.

Those are completely different engineering problems. It's a lot easier (and cheaper) to build something to withstand shaking than it is to hold off the enormous pressure of water.

A Lot of pressure - keep in mind that the houses you see still standing with their roof showing... are filled with water as well - so there's no pressure on the structure in that manner.
