Some people have way too much time on their hands or too much money that they don't know what to do with.
That is freakin' awesome though. I bet the 1/4 mile time isn't that great, not a lot of torque off the line. I can just imagine the look on the DMV when you go down to get it registered. And you tell him the guy on eBay said it was probably street legal

So I get some red for pointing out the obvious? Why not go give Randomtask some red too while you're at it, he pointed out the same thing I did. Oh wait, he doesn't have a bar, so you don't have some "Give Him more red" bandwagon to jump on.
Any my red didn't grow over a few months, it grew over the course of less than a week in May/June when stimpy attacked me and then I defended myself, and I got red for it (though he got banned).

..well, you can see that in 3 years I don't post all that much so I tend to miss things. Not all of us can be Captain Obvious, wanker.
*Checks wallet*.... Damn... I'll have to make my own. Where does one come across two jet engines ?? It does appear street legal, though I think you'd have a problem in traffic, but no tailgaters
Bitchin! Thanks for postig those (unless someone else already did and Tinton already redundantly pointed out in those threads that they have already been posted)

OH MY OOOOH OOOOH OOOOH, "let me go get you a towl"
I want that in a Fiero. Hmm wonder if the local 1/4 mile track would let me run it. HeHe. That would be so cool to have a small gas motor to run it around town, even a 3cyl metro motor then fire up the jets on the highway.

Found some info myself. Looks like it was a helicopter turbine that produces 800 shaft hp, he must have removed the free turbine and installed nozzles for thrust. Cool idea, seen the same thing done to small turbines and fitted on golf carts.

Dude, didn't mean to snap at you... just seemed like you were busting my buddy Joel's chops!
I am gonna say that many have not seen those links, because they may never venture into O/T. One of the thread titles is phrased so that a twin turbine powered MR2 is about the last thing that would come to my mind.
As for the second sentence... maybe we should start a "Where's Stimpy?" thread
BTW, that car sold for $20,100... That's about $9000 less than they cost new!

I wanna know how that got started. Was the guy just like "oh...I just happen to have these lying around...hmmm...what should I do? The chopper? no....THE MR2! YES!" or...did it come from some sort of head trauma? "I was hanging a pic up in the bathroom, slipped and fell, knocked myself out, and came up with the idea!" ::CONFUSED:: -Ben

Hey man, I hope you are joking about the zero torque at the weels (which is totally corrrect) But have you seen the jet dragsters at the track? Less than 7s and deafening sound

But everything considered, jet powered cars are not the fastest thing at the track. Jet engines don't spool up as fast as a piston engine. And the hookup of a top fuel dragster is going to be a lot better than the pure thrust of a jet. 7s are good, but 4s are even better.
Here are some fun facts from NHRA's web site:
FUN FACTS
Did you know …
… that the nitromethane-powered engines of NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars produce approximately 8,000 horsepower, about 43 times that of the average street car?
… that an NHRA Top Fuel dragster leaves the starting line with a force nearly five times that of gravity, the same force of the space shuttle when it leaves the launching pad at Cape Canaveral?
… that from a standing start, NHRA Top Fuel dragsters accelerate faster than a jumbo jet, a fighter jet, and a Formula One race car?
Pass a Top Fuel at the starting line in your 200 MPH Corvette. If he hits it at the exact same time you trip the lights at 200 MPH, he will catch you and BLOW YOUR DOORS OFF within the 1/4 mile.

That sounds good and I was going to call BS, but had to go look up how fast the Top Fuel dragsters are now running... 4.41 seconds ... the top fueler is going over 130mph faster through the lights... 200mph vette is travelling at 293.3333 feet per second... a 1/4 mile is 1320 feet... divide 1320 feet by 293.3333 and you've got 4.5000 seconds. I didn;t think anyone had beaten 4.500 in the 1/4 yet, that is amazing.
This last weekend Top speed record got bumped by the Go Army team
* Best quarter-mile elapsed time: 4.441 seconds * Best finish-line speed: 336.15 mph * 5 G-forces at the starting line (nothing accelerates faster on land) * 6 negative G-forces upon deployment of twin parachutes at 300 mph
