My digicam I have has a option to make a movie simliar to how Yellowstone has done. I've installed all the programs & everything that was on the discs, and even carefully read the directions how to load them up on the computer(pretty simple, same as pictures) but....
Every time I load up a video onto the pc, it the file type is "file" ??? When I click on it, it prompts you to pick whatever application to play the movie in, at that point I pick Windows Media Player. I actually do get to watch the video at that point, but anyone know how I can convert or save or something in w/e media(like windows or something) so that I don't have to pick w/e application each time and have it an actual file. I plan on making a short video of my Fiero soon, since I hopefully will get it fixed Saturday and want to make a short video of me driving it home. Thx.
I don't know for sure if this will work or not (since my movies always save as .avi). Try opening it in WMP like usual, and then go to file, and click save as, and try saving it as the file type you want. Also, if that doesn't work, then go to a folder, and click Tools->Folder options, then click on the View tab, and click the circle next to "Hide Extensions for Known file types" so that the circle is not filled in. Then just go to the file copy, and rename it with the extension that you want. Again, I am not sure that will work, and make sure you only try it on a copy of the file since it corrupts the file sometimes. Good luck, and if you need any more help, LMK. -Will

well, without knowing the format the movie file is in, its hard to tell what you need. most camaras use the jpg & mpg format. what brand & model camara is it? with that, it can be looked up, and see what the native format is. if it connects via USB, you can usually access them directly thru windows explorer, so then yo can see what the extension is (mpg, wma, mov, etc)

It definitely sounds like your camera is set to reecord in a format that Windows isn't recognizing. Try opening the Options feature of Windows Media Player and check "All" to recognize lessor used formats like .avi
You can also probably go through the camera settings to have it record in mpeg. or other types.
If all else fails, you can download an excellent media manager from Irfanview.com It is great for playing vids, but it is also great for managing still pictures. You get to correct color, hue, tint, crop, and plenty more stuff. You'll definitely need this with a digital camera!

The problem you are having is within Windows. It has to set that filetype to open in a specific program. Right click on the movie file you are trying to open and click properties. A window will open up and where it says "Opens With..." click the change button and choose Windows Media Player and hit ok a couple times. That should do it.
