Has anybody been able to build a box where the factory sub sits, but for an 8". Im just curious because I really want a sub and dont want to be obvious with it in the center counsle. I could build one, but I wouldnt know how to go about it, fiberglass, MDF, whatever. Can someone tell me how to build one, or better yet sell me one. Thanks

I believe a few have jammed an 8" into the standard enclosure. Obviously with some rework around the opening. MinnGreenGT could probably find the thread in the archive.

The Fierostore sells the enclosure by itself if you just want to experiement without destroying your stock one.

Whoa, thats cool, I never even thought of doing it like that. What are the dimensions of it if you know off hand? Also how tight of a fit was it to get in in there. Thanks a lot.

Its an 8" i still have to mount it better, as u can see its crooked FYI i doesnt sound too great if ur looking for deep base, or maybe its just my sh*tty sub
I wasn't going to mention anything until I actually started, but I'm planning on working on a box for an 8" sub and also one for a 6.5" sub this summer. The 6.5 should be pretty simple, but the 8 will take more work. I want to make these so you can't see them unless you look under the dash.

ok guys, thanks for all the input, I actually started mine today. I used an 8" tube for cement, and cut it down to 12" long, then I cut a nitch in it so it will be the same contour of under the dash. I then cut a ring of MDF with an ID of 7.25" and an OD of 9" and fiberglassed that on. Here is a pic of my progress, im going to be fiberglassing the whole tube inside and out so it will be really strong. Im not done yet so bear with me. The spray bottle is there for scale. Also when you are sitting in the passanger seat you cant see it, its more tucked in than the stock one.

Looking good....Just to let you know I had to put mine up in sections, first the tube, then screwed the base plate on and then installed the speaker. The guy that I modeled mine after said he put his up all assembled but no way on my 85... And I also had to move the blue box out of the way...what sub are you going to use??????

ok, here is my progress on the box, I fiberglassed the whole thing. I first stretched pantyhose accross the back portion to seal it then laid a layer of glass on. After that I glassed the inside and outside with another layer and here we are. It looks crude right now(my first time with fiberglass) But I still have to sand it and add a layer of bondo to make it smooth. Heres a few pics of it.

A lot of modern subwoofers don't need but .35 to .7 cubic feet of sealed airspace to perform well, and don't cost a lot. If you are using the factory locations for all the oher speakers it's pretty futile to go nuts on just the subwoofer (IMO). I don't have the formula handy (something to do with diameter x depth x pi = volume or whatever) but I seem to recall the tube only has to be something like seven inches deep. The problem has been finding 8" diameter PVC... it only seems to be available for industrial applications, that means going to a contractor yard and what am I going to do with the other seven feet of PVC? and I'd try yo find the PVC caps to glue on... I like the concrete casting tube idea, probably a better idea and easier to work with..
Nice progress, keep up with posting!

Ok, I think I am finally done with the box. here are some more pics. I only smoothed out the bottom half of the tube because it is a lot of work, and that is the only part you may see. I didn't know that fiberglass and bondo was so hard to sand seeing that this is my first time, next time i will try to impliment a power tool. so here they are
Very nice on the fiberglassing. How much air space is there? I've got an 8inch Hx2 in my console that gives out a pretty nice boom, lemme know how the 8inch under the dash sounds (rattles, sq, balance, etc.) thx

I se that afew people are asking questions about this box, so I will bring it back to life. The boxs air space is exactly .3 qubic feet, just enough for most 8" subs. I still havent installed it yet, because I still need to get my 5 channel amp.
