I picked up this 85GT at a local auction last week. (likely paid too much at $600.oo as it needs EVERYTHING) When I first saw the car in the back corner of the auction lot I thought it was a convertable. No convertable..... and well.... ok, so it was actually more likely installed by the dealer and not the factory, but it does appear to be a professional installation, and original to the car when new. Save the photo NOW if you like it, as I personally don't like vinyl tops, and this one will be going to the big dumpster in the sky soon. I do think it's interesting however, as I always like to see things a little out of the ordinary in this little world of Fieros we live in
Russ 6 Fieros and counting. (would somebody stop me please)

What did they do with the seam in the roof? Was it tucked properly into the seam (which would require pulling the back of the front part of the roof up). Or did they just bridge the vinyl over the seam?
Now you have a use for the rear clip and the sun roof top off the parts car. It might be easier to swap them than to clean of fall the glue.

I haven't looked really close at it, but it appears that the gap in the roof was just bridged over with the vinyl. They may have put something in the groove to fill it first however. I'll let you know for sure tomorrow after the beast has been skinned
I have a white 84 parts car without sunroof that I may use to replace the top with. I want to keep the GT as original to the RPO sheet as possible. Anyone have a pair of gray lower aero rockers and one compleat (gray) seat skin for sale?
BTW Aaron: I pulled all the interior out of the black 85 I bought from you today and got one seat reskinned for my recipient 85SE. some trim and marker lights + headlight motors will go on the GT. door panels, carpet, stearing wheel and shift knob go to the hot rod to compleat the brown package. Back in the 80s we used to refer to that as a "ragtop" not to be confused with a convertible, but it was just a vinyl top over the roof. They used to put them on everything form small trucks to apparently Fieros. Back then I thought they looked kind of cool, but now, I wouldn't be caught dead with one.

Well.... the last of those ultra rare vinyl top Fieros is no more: Only took a little over an hour to skin it off and remove the excess glue with lacquer thinner. At least the neighbors don't honk, point and laugh as much when they drive by now

Theres a few shops here that do those to dealer cars as a dealer add on for new cars. Some even rivet a plastic or metal 'bow' across to make it look like a convertible before they cover it. I thought it looked kind of cool and different . One that always cracks me up are the Lincoln and Caddy 4 doors with 'convertible' tops and a glass moonroof in it (wonder where that folds up)

So, I am to assume that you use the screwdriver in the ignition as well..??
Naaa. I own 7 Fieros now (only 2 are parts cars), so I figured one of the other keys might fit. I have an 84 that I've been picking over for two years now, and very little of it remains, but just when I think about hauling the carcass off to the dump I find one more part on it that I can use. This time the part I could use was the ignition key!! It's a perfect fit in the GT
