The gorund was still wet so we were both at a disadvantage. Sitting at a stop light at 9 am on a perfect straight away that has almost perfect 1/4 mile runs from light to light. This guy in a 90's charcoal grey 240SX with a fart can is creeping ahead of me so I think maybe he wants to race. Light turns green and I was light on the peddle so that I wouldn't lose traction like i did to that damn civic last week. Well we were neck and neck up till second when I heard WHOOSH and his front end poked out in front of mine, then I hit my power band on the upper half of second gear (isuzu tranny) and then third and I was ahead of him by a few cars.
Next light he is behind me and I decided to gun it to see if he could keep up and had the same results.
The thing is, I know 240SX's have about 160hp and this one had a turbo which makes me think it must have had more ponies than that. I wonder if he was really that slow or that he stopped racing hard for some reason. I heard the turbo release when I was in second gear, I don't know much about turbo's but I thought the release was when you let off the gas. Whats up with that.
BTW I estimate that I have anywhere from 150-165 ponies. Never dynoed but I did do nearly everything I could to the 2.8. With the exception of turbo, porting heads, or cam.

Nice Kill, however, is it possible he lost traction due to rain, fwd, turbo and therefore his HP was unusable. Even though he may have more than you?
I have 45 265 17's of my car and was spinning in 1st, second, and third so its possible he had a hard time too. It was slippery as hell, I just made sure i kept as much traction as I could on the ground. A few weeks ago I was on a hill in the morning right next to an ugly ass civic all dressed up with LED's etc.., and I lost my cool when the light turned green and stomped the peddle. I sat and spun out for like 5 secons while he only spun for 1/2 second. Needless to say I was pissed at myself.

dude, 240's are rear wheel drive and that whoosh that you heard was the blow off valve in between shifts, if he just let up on the gas it wouldnt be loud enough for you to hear. You should find him again when the roads are dry Find out what hes got if you can..
------------------ REMEMBER: If you cant win the race you loose the argument!!
i just bought myself a 240. they arent that great stock, but if you swap an sr20det, they are fast. also, if you swap a rb25det it would knock the 2.8 right out of the car. maybe he turbo'd the ka, but i doubt it, not many people go that route for dragging. see if you can find him again and see what he's got. also, see if he is on the www.automotiveforums.com website, cuz im a member and maybe could find him

Oh OK, well good, then I did spank him! Serves him right for having a fart can on a nice car. Seems you have to register to view that board you posted a link to.

ummm... yeah, i think you do, but its got a fiero forum!! its always good the be a part of multiple forums. if you want you can register, but you dont have to. if you find the guy again, make sure to ask him what hes got, i know it may be tempting to just smoke him again, and in all the adrenalin rush, you may forget.
oh, and the whole fart can on a nice car, its the whole import thing. stock exaust sounds like shat on those cars, it may have been a full catback, but idk.
*you only have to register if you want to post. otherwise your free to roam around on the site*

Im pretty sure state-side KA engines make around 140HP stock, and about as much torque.. if you heard a woosh, it woudl have probly been an "SR" swap. The SR20DET makes approx 200-215HP depending on what year you get.
And they all come with those uberskinny 215's in the rear afaik...
Nice kill

The 240's are a huge tuner car. With an engine swap with turbo they are hard to beat. They are also one of the more popular drift cars to have. They are kinda like the Fiero in that they are very desirable to modify and have huge potential.
Looks to be about the same weight 2800-3000 lbs. Maybe I'll see him on my way home and I'll spank him some more. My friend had a 240SX autp tranny without a turbo and his car was real slow. Thats why I thought I had a chance in the first place, but when I heard the turbo I thought I was toast.

The 240sx is rear-wheel drive unlike someone else mentioned earlier. And he'll have aprox 220hp. I've sat in my friend's 240sx that hasn't been modified, the sr20det swap with everything stock including the turbo, only thing he did was a fart can. I can definitly say that 240sx is faster than the 2.8L, but it should be since it's 220hp to my stock 140hp and both around the same torque.
But if you did beat him and he was really trying, congrats and nice kill. Always fun to test your car out on cars you haven't before, gives that adreneline rush.

It could have very well been a boosted KA24 - which is more popular then the SR20 swap. The SR20 has waaay more potential then 200 hp....

The KA is only 140hp? I had a friend that told me his car was 160hp and it was the lighter engine in a mid nineties convertible 240SX. I guess he was trying to mae his car cooler than it was. Kinda like me and my beastly 2.8. One thing I am sure of is that it had a turbo and was creeping on me right after I heard that WOOOOSHHH.
Yea the KA24DE is only rated at 140 hp. Pretty weak for that car which is why they were never too popular. Just like the Fiero though, people who buy them now often times do so with swapping in mind, namely the SR20DET (SR20DE can be found in the US sentra SE 2.0) or the skyline motors (RB series). You can turbo the KA which is most popular because its the cheapest.

It goes to prove that just because you have a quick car doesn¡¦t mean you can drive it. If he had a stock SR20DET swap: 210HP, shifting at 7500rpm, on 205 tires Boost controller would put him at 250-275whp From a standstill any V6 Fiero should beat a 240 off the line. Between the 4 valves per cylinder and turbo lag, they have to get the revs up between 3000-3500 before they have any power.
My 240 weighs in at just over 2500lbs and once my new turbo is installed I will be putting down just over 400whp. Now I just have to get my Fiero up to the same level as my 240. ļ
