I was thinkin... If you used that aluminum 'disc' as the backing plate, you could do away with the stock door, and find a way to bond the aluminum to the stock hinge. That way it will be an actual 'door' and it would even sit flush with the body lines...

Yes you can do that , that was what I was going to do at first before I came up with what I have now. I actually didn't want the flush look, I wanted it to be totally different. In reality the door itself is still flush but the outer ring is not.
If you do make an aluminum "disc" it will have to be bent slightly as I did the ring to match the slight curve of the car. Regardless of how it looks the OEM door itself is not totally flat.

Your car looks A1...a credit to you.
Here is my filler cap... aftermarket aluminium/carbon fibre....self-adhesive....$7...Pic taken at night on "gamma" mode...Yours is nicer, and even more so because it is yours and unique!!!Very well done!!
I only used this because the previous owner had transferred his initials onto the cover, and I will be respraying the whole car soon.

I have always wanted one of those also. IT looks especially good raised,..much better than if it had just been flush.
