Does your Fiero have that plastic cover that fills in the triangular hole to access the right end of the dogbone bolt? I've seen it on the earlier cars, mine doesn't have one, and the hole is bigger on the '88 cars so the earlier one won't fit.

Yes.. all of mine do.. The earlier ones will fit but they are likely to blow out... With a little ingenuity you can make them stay in though.

What I have heard is GM ran out of them before the end on the run of 87's so some late 87's did not have them from new. No 88's had them nor was one ever made to fit the 88 as far as I know. I do have one in my 88 and I glued it in. If you don't do something to keep it in it will blow out and fall on the raod as you drive. One day these will be hard to find as most junk yards pull them out to get the dog bone out.

I don't believe that any of mine have one installed.
I too tried to fit one in but it wasn't tight and would fall out.
I have 7.

Nope my 88 coupe was triangle plasticless. I yanked one from an 87 and put it on, but it fell off before the next time I looked under the decklid.

I always heard they didn't come on 88's. ?

WOW! What a find! An '87 Formula with only 28k?!?!?!

You do know they didn't make Formulas in 87, right?

My Formula doesn't have one, but it also had nearly 100K miles when I bought it, so lots can happen in that time.

That's another thing that I have found a ton of in California junkyards! I had only seen one Fiero with one of these in place before I got here... EVERY Fiero in EVERY junkyard out here has one! Or did have until I got it!

88 didn't come with that plug- if it has one it was added by someone other than the factory

I just checked my '88GT (I purchased new) which has all of 5,200 miles on it and there is no plastic plug in that area. The car has never been altered & I never had the factory recall work performed. It's about as "original" as it gets.

Thanks for all the replies, it is as I thought. I saw a few '88 cars at the 20th that had one, so I though that mine was missing on my Formula.

I added mine on my formula. JohnF added his on his coupe. Not a perfect fit, but I like it. I lost one during an autocross

My GT does not, but I figured being the 6th to last Fiero built the the parts bin was empty.
I just checked, the Formula does not have one either.

What was the question?
Actually mine did not have one either and I installed one from an earlier car.

Mine didn't have one there until I installed it; had to trim a little bit to get it to fit right. I try to grab them at the junkyards when I see clean ones.

It's an empty hole on an 88. You may have a plug there. It didn't come that way.

It did not come on the 88s due to the redesign of the strut towers. The hole is slightly larger than the hole on earlier models. If you try to put the plug in it will be loose. I've seen people make them fit by bending the tabs and using electrical tape. But it seems like more trouble than it's worth. It is purely cosmetic.

I mainly wanted to know so that if my car should have had one, I could start looking for one. I haven't seen any in the wrecking yards with '88 cars.

Never had the plastic triangle. Does that mean 88's are lighter than other years? hehehe

I didn't even know that part existed until my first show and someone suggested I go to the junk yard and pick one up.
