I was outside working on SmoothGT and letting the engine run at idle..and I came in the house for a few minute's. I had gotten a phone call. My brother drive's up and run's over toward my Fiero(I see him through the window) and then he run's in the house... "Your car is on FIRE.... "
I hang up on a frind and run out there... It sounded like someone was inside the engine beating with a hammer trying to get out.... I cut it off, and get to looking and find no oil under it or anything... It was'nt on fire just smoking like it was.. Scared the snot out of me... But now, it sound's like I decribed above and HAS NO POWER. When I put it in drive the knock get's louder and it will just die after a few second's...

I had the engine running like I do periodically to keep it fresh. I was only in the house for about 15-20 minute's. How could this happen to me??

What could it be??
I know that this engine is shot and the chance's for me getting SmoothGT to the 20th just got real slim...

Maybe I could do a engine swap before the show, but then I would have to use $$ for the show and trip for another engine.. I guess I'll start looking for a 4.9L for it..
Any idea's??

You could always rent a car or get a ride with someone on the caravan.

( Smooth bangs head against wall...saying "Never leave car running un-attended!" "That's why they put gauges in cars"!" ).

Sorry to hear your engine took a crap! Better now, than halfway to Michigan!

If its a loud knock, you threw a rod probably, but it didn't go through the block, at least your car didn't burn down. Smooth I gotta ask you something serious though, what are you gonna do *IF* your car does burn in the future, or you get into an accident?

My GT died awhile back, and I had to jump start her. I was at work, so I thought that I'd let her run to charge the battery. About 10 minutes later, someone starts talking about a car smoking out front. Sure enough, it was mine. The fan switch was bad, and never cooled the engine. Luckily, someone saw that the engine was still running and turned it off. I just came back to a pool of antifreeze, and no major damage was done.

If something similiar happened with yours, it will run until it stalls with damage, or until it burns to the ground.

The lesson learned was the same as stated above. You shouldn't trust your engine any more than a small child when they are wound up.

Oh c'mon guys, we can do better this. Everyone start putting together a fund for smooth....(starts crying) Smooooth, why has thow forsaken me....(continues crying) I don't know if i will be able to take this...(pulls gun out and loads it) I'm not sure if i want to live in a world where smooth does not make it to the 20th (puts gun up to head)It looks like Smooths final response as to whether he will make it to the 20th or not decides if this bullet is going to enter my skull and slice through brain and shatter my skull on the backend. Only smooth can decide....(Sucks up snot and wipes tears) Be strong!

Smooth,

Sorry to hear about your engine! I hope you can still make it to the 20th. Smooth GT would be a bonus, but...

I almost had a little engine problem of my own Sunday. I was just starting home from a friend's house after a weekend barbecue when I noticed my voltage was down around 12. I started contemplating replacing my alternator, and whether I'd make it home on battery when I noticed the temperature guage was up toward the red zone as well. I pulled over immediately, and opened the decklid. Fortunately, I have been meaning to replace the belt anyway and had a spare behind the seat. A 5 minute repair and I was back on the road.

It was only about 2 miles of driving, starting out with a cold engine, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I don't think I did any permanent damage.

Dan

Dan, No I did'nt do the paint yet, and thank gosh that I did'nt since I am going to use my paint money for an engine swap...

Another forum member Pm'ed me and has what I need... A 1990 Caddy w a strong 4.5L V8 with the 4T60 tranny, everything... THE WHOLE CAR for a great price. I am going to try to go get it this weekend. Maybe, IF I had a welder I could make the mount's and just bolt it to the TH125 until AFTER the 20th!! Then swap out the tranny's.
ANYONE have an extra set of engine mount's for sale??
