I just got back to Denver after a long weekend of driving and was it ever worth it! This convertible GT is one of the nicest Fieros I have ever seen, and I own it (still can't believe it).
You should have seen all the cranking heads of people passing me on the highway (I drove the speed limit for 99% of the trip).....everyone was gawking at it. It was great!
Anyways......thank-you Chris for building a superb example of a Fiero. The Northstar performed flawlessly and even getting into the throttle every once in a while I still managed 25-26 MPG on the trip home......this thing gets better mileage than my bone stock '88 GT auto w/19K miles!
See you guys at the 20th show!!!

Congratulations on the car, Mike! It is one beautiful automobile. I was kind of hoping to get a chance to see it if you came through Nebraska with it...guess I'll have to wait for the 20th show!

I still have my '88 GT......I'm going to try to keep both Fieros, but I may need to sell the '88 sometime in the future.
litespd,
We took I-80 through Nebraska to get to Indiana, but I took I-70 home. I feel more comfortable on that route.....I've driven it so often that I don't need to look at a map to figure out where I am or when I need to fill-up. I can probably drive that route blindfolded!
Anyways......I WILL be at the 20th show, so see you there!

Thats one sweet car. I thought about buying it myself last fall. No matter what you paid though, you got a super deal on one extra nice one of a kind. Dont scratch it, lol. Hope to see you at the 20th.

Thanks for the comments guys.....I am very happy with the car. That doesn't mean there's no room for improvement though!
There are a few things that will get some attention in the very near future (most have to do with the convertible top itself), but overall the car is exactly what I had hoped it was. As for pics.....don't worry. I'll be posting a lot of pics in the coming days/weeks.

Thanks. The car performed flawlessly....I finally managed enough ecourage to explore the "L1" deal......what a difference! You were right......it almost sounds like you're about to grenade the engine, but shifts just in the nick of time. I am definitley going to take this to a dragstrip to see what it'll do.
See you later and thanks again.

I figure every time I take mine out, I get an average of 1.7 "thumbs ups" from random citizens. And now, mrfiero, you can join me in my paranoia about difficult-to-repair candy paint jobs and fancy engines. Heh. Takes half the fun out of it.
If Pontiac had had a single brain cell, the Fiero would have been offered in a convertible from year 1. At least they could have offered it in 86 with the introduction of the GTs. By then they had admitted to themselves that it was a sportscar... and sportscars are always offered with a convertible option, right?

I would sincerely love to know the manufacturer of that convertible top! PLEASE!!!
DKOV -
Automoda manufactured these kits in the early 90's. It's my understanding that only a handful (maybe 6 or 7) fastback kits were ever built. There are many more nothcback kits, but still only 24 or so.
For what it is it's a great set-up.....much better than any other convertible kit for a Fiero, but it is far from perfect. I am going to try to "re-engineer" a few things to make it look better, at least look better to me.
PontiacFiero,
The original plan was to pick up the convertible the weekend of the swap meet so I could show it off there, but I ran into a few snags and this past weekend was the soonest I could do it.
I'll be there next year though (hopefully!).
Pics will be forthcoming......the weather here has sucked the past couple of days. Evidently it was in the 80's in Denver when I was on the road and yesterday (my first full day back) it was in the high 40's (not much warmer today). When the sun pops out again she'll get a nice bath and coat of wax so I can snap a ton of pictures.
Thanks again guys......all the deals I had to make to get this car were well worth it (I could write a book on what it took to pull this deal off.......it was quite an involved process).

Hey Mike, There is a picture of the bra that I use. You can also see the tape under it. I use that everytime I travel far. It works great! Wow the guy in that car is one hot dude! HA! Take care of my old car.

I saw that. I will have to buy one of those bras to keep these pesky rocks away from the nose!
It looks like you're confused in that picture......your expression is sort of "WTF?".
