So anyway I went to a few places to find out what the widest tire I could slap on the back end of my baby would be without any rub…
I was thinking I MIGHT be able to get away with some 245/60/14's which would look really awsome, I mean those things are like steam rollers… my father has some on his IROC….
But I don’t want to buy these tires and be sol…
So could everyone post tire size, rim size, and any suspension mods…
My above questions are regarding the rear, but I would also like to get the tire sizes for the front as well…
I know the question is regarding "max.width" but this online calculatior helps figure out "max. sidewall height" for any tire size regardless of width. It may help you determine what series to go with. Enjoy. http://www.procomptires.com/tireconversionchart.html

i would say 245's are too wide for those coupe rims, theyd be a big pain in the ass to get on, and too wide in general for a Fiero without go to Coil-overs. I have 225's and are very very close to coming in contact with the strut. Other people who have 235's had to modify there strut (i forget how...pounding something)

On Fiero OEM 14" rims I run 215 / 60's up front and 225 / 60's on the rear , Dunlop tires . I don't think I would go with 235 's on the rear with 14" rims unless they were custom rims and were a bit wider than the OEM stock rims .

I have an 88 it had the 15 X 6 on front and 15 X 7 on rear. I ran 245/50-15 on the rear with no problem.

Yeah, but he is talking about a 14 inch rim in a 60 series. A lot taller sidewall.
The widest I personally have mounted on the 14" fiero rim was a 235-60-14 and that thing was bulging like no other. I would not go any wider then the 235. Also don't forget going into a 235ish size while keeping the 60 series sidewall is going to through your speedo off a good bit.

So if you have 17x7 rims, what the max sizes I can use???
Ok I am currently running this setup - 17 X 7, 40mm offset. I am running 225/45-17 all the way around. I believe there are some who are running 235/45-17 on the rear with 17 X 7. My next set of tires I will be switching the front to a 205/50-17 and either go back with 225 on the rear or try the 235's.

There is a little discrepancy regarding this issue, I could go to 145/60/14's and it would not disturb the speedomiter. Tire basic 101
145: This denotes the width of the tire… it is given in MM I belive,
60: This is the tire seires, or how tall this the side wall is. It is expressed in a percentage of the tire's tread width, in this case it is 60% of the width of the tread
Lol as I was writing this I realized what I had done wrong, o well someone will find this information usefull…
And the last number 14: Is the size rim it is going on
Sorry guys

I have 16" rims. I am running 245x45 on them... Well... use to when my brother owned the rims. Now I have an old set of 245x45 on the front and new 225x50 in the rear.
I am going to switch back to 245x45 all around eventually. They never rub... not even in the front... (but maybe thats because the tires are bald. I don't know)

As far as looks, I think the 215-60-14s that came standard on the 85 GTs are the fattest tires that can be fitted onto the 14-in rims and still look OK.
Even with the 215-60s, the tire sidewalls bubble outwards due to the wideness of the tires. The bubble-effect will be greater with fatter tires and not look too good in my opinion, as I like for my tire sidewalls to be straight up and down (though it makes it easier to "curb-rash" the rims).

I'm running the same size wheel as Zoom88, 17x7" with a 40mm offset. I'm running 215/45R17's on the front, and 235/45R17's on the rear of my 86 GT with stock suspension. The 235's have about between a sixteenth and an eighth of an inch of clearance between the tire and the spring perch on the rear struts. On an 88, you'd have more clearance due to the different suspension.
245 60 on back, 215 60 on front. Now, these are just some spare rims/tires I got from batboy. I just threw these on so I could clean up my other wheels, because they were getting dirty. And I think I need to rebalance a couple of them. Anyway, the 245 60 fits, but it looks completely stupid. It's probably not very safe either, because the sidewall bulges way out. Also, since the tire is too wide for the rim, the middle tread wears out faster than the sides. I only drove on these up to the Vo-Tech, where it now sits getting ready for paint.
