I posted this one a while back...before the time of the story this was always an idea at the back of my head...but one day it materialized...
Bright sunny August day 2 years ago I had just recieved my 2nd Fiero...a parts car (1984 2M4...now that beautyful 4.9 in my website) with a good drive train...what are the odds ? So i'm working on getting that front right flat tire off and replacing it with another winter spare we had just so it would not sit crooked...I relize that my brother just left so...i'm home alone!...naturally, I get the keys and decide to take it for a spin. So here i am going 120Km/H down a 60 street (very unresponsable I know) and I notice a undercover cop car weaveing in to get closer to me to pull me over and tickt me...so I hang a left on my street and give that little 2.5 all it's got to get back to my place a.s.a.p...I get there ...park it and pretend as if i'm washing it (was going to...so the soap and bucket were already there waiting for me). The cop pulls into my driveway, gets out of the car...he was a middle aged man that was at least 280 pounds and not very happy at all...big battle scar along his face...he says "Was that you sir in that black sports car" Cop says, I reply "Why i don't know what your talking about" he stares me down and says "there was a car that was speeding just along and I saw him pull into this street and the car looked pretty much like this one" I respond calmly "Well officer there are a few black sports cars around this block...heck if it was my car wouldn't the engine be hot" he looked at me and walked towards the car and put his hand on the hood...felt NO head and said "Terribly sorry sir...do you know where the other sports cars are in this neighbourhood" I told him where a few others were and he apologized again and left the same way he came. God bless my Fiero.
True story....don't try...i was lucky
...another one...not soo good
While helping out with my engine swap at a friends shop here in Toronto we finally get to starting the car and man it ROARS...all the people from the neighbouring car shops come over to look at her...a Cop pulls in...we all get a little nervous...he gets out of his car and walks right up and looks into the engine compartment..."why isn't that one of them 'F-eye-aeros' those ones ones that always catch on fire" We all said "Yep thats the one" he says "so whatcha got in there...a big 'ol eight cylender" bubba joe nods and says "somthing like that". The tow truck pulls in ready to tow the car back to my place where i'll finish off workin on her...the cop watches while we push her out...he walks up to me and asks "soo...to who does this car belong eh" and I say *grinning* "it's mine" and he looks at me with a gring...tugging his utility belt "Eh theres-a no one around...why don't ya let her loose in this here back street...I won't say nothing" I said "officer it's not insured or even certified" ...made me laugh because he kept on trying to convice me to drag race it along the back street behind the shop...he even told me that he'd drive in the passenger seat so it would make it "legal"
...not as funny but it's funny having a cop try to convice you to do something illegal just so he can witness what a V8 Fiero can do.

Soaper, it's obvious that you're trying to ask the questions that everyone will have answers for, just to make a long thread and clog up the system. People, stop falling for it. Soaper, quit trolling, it's getting annoying.

Sorry dave, but you're starting to annoy me. If you dont like soaper ignore his posts. I think he is asking questions that could provide good answers. I may be wrong...but I think you just have something against soaper. so if you have a problem...just shut up and turn to a different place. thank you. -Ryan
I've been on discussion boards longer than you have, Ryan, and I know a troll when I see it--even if you don't. It's like going on an F-body board and asking, "Which is better, the Camaro or the Firebird?" What do you think's gonna happen??
Shaun41178, is that you?!

Well, they do seem to be slightly obvious questions...I suppose you may be correct...but why not just ask soaper? You just trying to have people check out the threads? Sorry if I came out as a little bit rude btw Dave; having a really bad week. -Ryan
crazyd: actually soaper is just young, bored, and has no Fiero. That doesn't make him a troll. His subjects are, no offense to soaper, not that interesting to some people but your flaming him in every thread isn't exactly a great read either. You seem to have a short fuse with people on here, please lay off the strong coffee and relax a little. In other words: can't we all just get along?
Anyway back to the question at hand...guys never forget
"if you've got nothing good to say...don't say anything at all" Now if someone wants to post something about a Fiero in the "General" Section of a national Fiero Forum...I believe they have every right to...and do so unscaved....Now for the Exhaust tip story...very good one
It happened RIGHT after the cop story...i'm sitting there looking over the engine drop work and stuff and i noticed that Bubba Joe put on some Tips that he never said he would...VERY NICE. SO i get down and look at them...they're used...but thats totally cool with me...so i feel around them and I noticed that the bottom end is all scratched up...and they're like at least 1 1/2 feet off the ground...so i asked Bub "Why are the bottom of these scratched" and he said "oh they used to be on my old 4.9" and he grinned and added "Battle Scars " and he continued to state that a 4.9L Fiero with a 5 speed CAN and WILL pop weelies NO PROBLEM...and I now second that statement.

Please explain how this thread is trolling.. no comparisons are being made here. He's just asking people to share stories and experiences they've had. I, for one, enjoy reading them.

Hey Dave,
You're right, my fuse has been a little short lately. Maybe if I actually drank coffee I'd have something to blame, but I don't. Maybe it's the christmas music, I dunno, but I felt my fellow Forum members were being played for fools and it pissed me off.

I raced a Dodge Shadow one day, smoked him. So at the next light he decided that get a good jump on me. Well the light did not turn green like the kid thought it would. The sad thing is that there was a cop sitting down the road and he must have been doing paper work because he never pulled the kid over. Pissed me off.

It's probably the christmas music. That stuff is just annoying.
This, or the other threads you pointed out are not trolling, he's just bored and trying to find something to entertain himself. Thats all. Just do what your parents always told you to do, "if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all"

Well some stunt driving, coming out of taco bell onto heavy traffic road - no brakes. Had to coast out into traffic and almost got clobbered by another car... Now I am not the best driver in the world and a hot air conditioning less 84 slug piloted by a 15 year old permit driver during summer (reflexes cut down about 60% ) without ANY brakes (Emergency included) is quite a feat.
Well my mechanic wanted an absurd amount of money to fix it and until now I have been flat broke (been driving my dads Acura so I don't much give a **** about fixing it) but now comes the dirty work... brake lines and such... yuck.
Once I sever a finger due to my lack of mechanical know how, no doubt I will come crawling back to PFF for advice and have a story to tell then... so part two mid Jan I guess

The first time I saw a Fiero was the summer of 1988, I was living in Thayer, Mo. and a friends father, an EMT, owned a jet black 1985 SE. This car was absolutely beautiful, tinted glass, nice stereo, after market wheels, the works, it was an awesome machine. I was instantly hooked. I've wanted to own one ever since.
The first opportunity I had to own one was the summer of 1990, I was only sixteen. The car I was interested in purchasing was a black and gray 1985 SE, sunroof, fourteen inch wheels. The guy said that I would need to replace the headlight motors and do some other minor repairs. He told me to wait a few weeks because he was going to be out of town and that would give me more time to gather the $350 he wanted for the car. I got the money together and went back to his house about three weeks later. He wasn't home. I waited another week, and as you may know that was very difficult. I went back to his house and tried again, and again he wasn't home. I gave up the search for this guy after that.
However I did not give up the search for a Fiero. I kept looking for the best car for the amount of money I had to spend. I met Bob Steiger when his shop was still in Loda. It was the winter of 1994. He had a huge selection of cars, but at the time he wanted more than I could afford. This didn't deter me either. The search continued.
Over the next few years I spotted many Fieros on the road and in the junkyards. My admiration, or jealousy, of the car owners grew.
Finally in the spring of 2002 I bought my first Fiero. Not exactly what I was looking for but, a Fiero none-the-less. I purchased a 1985 Sport Coupe. I saw this vehicle sitting in a used car lot, just going to waste. After about three months of passing by the car, I finally stopped in and asked the dealer who owned the car and if the owner was looking to sell it. The owners father is the first person I spoke with and he stated that it was his sons car and for a couple hundred bucks I could probably buy the coupe. I waited for two weeks to hear from the owner and he told me to meet him over by the car. I went and talked to him and he took me on a test drive. The car started fine and it drove ok. He did inform me that there were several things wrong with it and that I would have to fix them before I could drive it on the road.
The first thing that I noticed is that the paint was going bad, from a poor repaint job, it was crackling all over the front fenders and the roof section. To my surprise, the hood, though poorly painted, and the deck lid were both ok. Next I noticed that there was no glass in the sunroof, it was just cover by a piece of Plexiglas. The interior was shot but there were no tears in the seats. The seat rails were rusted to the point of not being able to move the seats forward or backward, the recline lever and brackets were still operational though. There was no antenna, and the radio didn't work. It also had two flat tires.
I offered the guy $200, but he refused, he said that he wanted at least what he put into it. I told him that I wouldn't spend more the $350 for a car that needed at least $3000 worth of work. just to make it decent again, I really wanted this car. He took that. After I got it home I found that I had lost all the gears except reverse. The shifter cable broke. I then exchanged the battery with a new one and the car wouldn't start. I didn't know what to do so I just let it sit. After about three months, we decided to change the starter and the shifter cable and sure enough that fixed the problem. The "Beast" is alive, well, at least she's running and moving again. We have a long way to go on her before she's ready for the road.

I never told this story before because I never had the energy and it sounds far fetched, but it's totally true.
Back in the summer of 2000, when I had my 87 SE 2M6, me and a friend decided to go out and have fun in it. It was low on oil and he was going to change the oil but then got lazy and said he'd wait until the next day. Back then I didn't understand the importance of having enough oil so I let it go.
We went out and I screwed around for a little but I could tell he was bored so I let him drive. He's a total nut when he drives but he's very skilled. If you want to find out a car's limits, give the car to him.
Anyway's, we did some crazy driving through some twistie back roads for a while. We made this sharp turn onto a bridge going way too fast and hit some gravel and basically powerslid through it. When we got through, he punched it again and the engine sounded really funny. I asked, "What the hell was that?!" and he said he didn't know. It only lasted for a second and then everything seemed normal again. Then he decided he wanted to go on the highway and I reluctantly told him it was ok.
We got on the highway and right away saw a race take place between a black Bonneville and a black Cadillac STS. Naturally, he decided he wanted to join in on the race. We got up to them and it was on. We got to a really long sharp curve on the highway and we were in the lead doing nearly 115 mph. We obviously outhandled them pretty well. Once it straightened out, there was a car ahead so my friend cut into the passing lane and cut them off. They were obviously a lot faster because once we hit the straight away and cut them off, they were on our ass in no time. We got back into the cruising lane and slowed down and noticed the engine was making that noise again and this time it wasn't going away.
Before we could even think about what happened, the Bonneville got in front of us and the Cadillac got aside of us and we noticed they were slowing down and had us boxed in. They came to a stop and formed an upside down v shape and had us blocked in the middle of the highway. It was 12:30 am so there luckily wasn't any traffic. This one big guy got out of the Cadillac and was pissed because we cut them off. He said, "It's two on one now mother****er". We noticed both cars were full of people and obviously they were in cahoots. My friend put it in reverse and we took off doing about 40 in reverse on the highway with a half blown motor. We saw them in the distance leaving as a car was approaching us.
It appeared as if they were gone so we proceeded foward. Our hearts dropped when we saw them sitting at the foot of an exit which headed to an overpass waiting for us! Obviously we weren't gonna go forward because the motor wasn't in too good of shape and they were faster to begin with. My friend started up on the ramp doing about 65-70. I noticed as we approached the VERY SHARP left turn, that he wasn't slowing down. We plowed through the turn and he did anything he could to keep it from spinning out. The sound of the tire's squealing was horrendous. We somehow made it through pretty good.
We got ahead but noticed they were following and they caught up in no time. Now we were hitting traffic. The Bonneville dropped back but the Cadillac got beside of us and was ready to ram us and try to spin us out so my friend jumped the median. We road the median for a while with the underside of the car scraping and then went into the oncoming lane. We sped up and cut back into traffic several cars ahead of where we were previously. My memories very vauge but I remember powersliding through intersection after intersection when we had the red light. We almost got sideswiped by an Intrepid and then lost control and almost hit an S10. Finally, the guys in the Cadillac gave up and we limped the Fiero home. I was never so scared in my life. We were both terrified!
The next day, we checked the car out. It had a really bad rod knock but everything else seemed ok except for the rear tires. The only things that were scraped were the catylitic converter and some bracket thing by the gas tank.
Soon after, we found out that these people are in a car club and they sell drugs and race for pink slips. There car's are all worked (mid 300 horsepower). The requirement is that the car must be a worked black Sedan. They obviosly take this very seriously and were more than ready to kill us. We are lucky to be alive and it's amazing that the car was in one piece. What we did was VERY stupid and we both learned our lessons.

OK, back in 1984 with my first Fiero we made the Orlando to St. Louis run in under 15 hours. thats about 1200 miles or so. That averages about 80 MHP including all the stops.
Never got below 100 MPH through the entire state of Ga. by following a Rolls Royce with more antennas than a airport control tower. The only way I could keep up with him is a car in front of him would slow him down enough for me to catch him. The car would pull over and let him pass and he would leave me sitting like I wasn't moving. We even had a RX7 running with us for a while.
Somewhere around Macon I think we passed a State Troopers car parked in the grassy median and the speedo was pegged. I saw the outline of a cop in the car as we passed it, but the car never even moved.
