I really feel this is the most fun you can have in a Fiero and still be wearing pants )
I have run before with this group, they are top notch, and profesional. Instructors are available for those new to driving their car flat out on a real Road-Race circuit! (As this is my first time at Willow, I have opted for instruction myself, not just for novices.) There are also profesional timing transponders that log your exact lap times.
Our next event is Friday, July 12th, 2002 Price: $120 (+$20 instructor fee required for novices) Duration: 1 day / 2.5 hours of track time per group!* Track: Willow Springs Big Track (near Lancaster, CA)
Willow Springs is "The fastest track in the West", one of the few tracks where a fast street car can break 140mph. From the thrill of speeding through turn 8 at 120+mph to the "pucker factor" of getting the infamous turn 9 right, WSIR offers high-speed thrills found on few other tracks anywhere.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible! ) Eric/WCF may make this a 'club event' so stay tuned!
PS: Read over the site carefully, and pay special attention to what is required on the track (download and read the self-tech form. If you can't self-tech your car, you should probally not do this.)
Come Race With Us!!!
Best! Ben

A few pics from Speedventures' Sears Point event last march;
My passanger Dave giving a 'victory wave' :P)
Coming up between turns 2 and 3, going from 4th to 3rd transitioning from WOT to light breaking to 'settle' the car.
Me STANDING on the brakes late while entering turn 5
This is what a RoadRace feels like
You so know you want to do this!

We have secured a set of digital scales for the event for fine tuning of each individual's car, as well as all necessary tools such as air compressor, I.R. gun, and a full roll-off of tools that could be needed.
in 2 weeks the RV will be packed, loaded, and ready to take up anyone who would rather watch Ben and the rest lay some smack-down on the Porsches and the rest

Awessome Eric! I'll have my g-tech comp there to fool with (and maybe get Gee numbers out of each car on the track.) and some other toys.
Even if you don't actually run your car, it's a nice way to spend a Saturday with a group of friendly car enthusiests!
Best! Ben

The day is fast approaching, and we have the following updates for you:
Please note the special room rate we were able to secure, the details of which are below.
1) Detailed information on the event is available online at http://www.speedventures.net/Detailed_Event_Info_WSir.asp. This will tell you how the morning will go, and is particularly important for anyone who hasn't driven with us before
2) Food and Lodging information is available at http://www.speedventures.net/Lodging_food_WSir.asp. Note: We have worked out a deal with the Best Western which will get you a discount if you mention SpeedVentures. We had to guarantee them a certain number of rooms, so even if you already have a reservation there, it would really help us out (and get you a discount) if you could call the BW and let them know your reservation is for the SpeedVentures event. Their number is (530) 934-4603. Thanks, all.
5) If you haven't chosen your car number, you can do so at https://www.speedventures.net/car_num_login.asp
6) The tech form is a must-have at the event. Be sure to print it out and fill it out before the event, and bring it with you to registration: http://speedventures.net/tech2.doc (the new, better form) or http://speedventures.net/tech.htm (the only html version currently avail).

Just a quick note, while there's still time to pick these things up;
BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THAT TECH FORM!!!
There's some, ah, different stuff in there that's a little obscure (but makes sense. Ish.) Like having ALL battery contacts covered with rubber shields, everywhere.
Well, at least, I had to make a little parts run a few days before the last event, <grin>
Dig it, track photo!
(The big one, looks fast.)
Best! Ben.

We are still planned to be going, however Chris has been keeping his eye on the weather forcasts as we all know this region is HELL ON EARTH during the summer, and the last time Chris was at Willow, well, he rather expired one of the head gaskets.
It is still planned that we will have the motorhome up there withh all equipment, however everything at this moment is a minute by minute play...........

I'm looking at the same thing, going to die probally just sitting in the shade. (seriously thought of not going, for about a second ) I may toss in an MSD system, just so I don't blow the ****ing ign module. (they're about comprable in cost, lol)
Bring that margurita machine! Fill with pinapple juice instead of alky ;D)
I'm gonna have a 9' umbrella and some race (aka cheap folding fabric) chairs (part of my 'kit' ) I'm voting we find a fire crew, and convince 'em to douse us. Maybe some shirts with flames or something.
Chris's car have water injection? Got time to throw one in? ;D)
PS: These guys do start EARLY in the day, the first two full sessions should be done by 10am or so, so we shoudl still get some time out there. We can always decide to bag it and hit the hotel pool ) (You guys staying overnite or just drive up at 5 in the morning? ;D)
Best! Ben

Hrm, planning agian. I either leave tommorow nite, or spend it codeing (ran into a major problem today with one of our cameras, and it's the important one. Client's fault, I was supposed to ahve this cam a month ago, not a week before everything's flying, but I may have to stay and fix it. mother!#(#$@#!!!
We'll see. Between the 110degree heat, and this, maybe we should pick another time? (these guys average an eveny every month or two.)
What do you all think?
Best! Ben.

It may be better overall to raincheck this event - what about the end of September? I'll have to see what is scheduled. This way we can plan out everything if it will be a few months from now

September, better weather, more time to plan, and my clients may not try to kill me.
The next event is August 2nd, also at Willow Springs.
The one after that is at Buttonwillow, Sept 20th.
Best! Ben.

Morris just called today and informed me that neither he nor Chris will be attending due to the heat. There is nothing wrong with racing around a 2.5 mile track at 150mph+, just not when the ambient temp is 110 degrees throughout 90% of the day
I'm thinking Sep 20th might be the best bet, fall is creeping in and it won't be too hot or too cold

There's even a snowballs' chance in SoCal-in-the-summer that the silver car may be running for that event, perhaps even it's 'inagural voyage'! ;D)
Heh, maybe I'll have to run it open-header, muwahahha )
With track temps that high (track will probally get to ~200F!) running can be dangerous too, the track gets mighty slick as temps get that high.
Sept 20th it is!
Best! Ben.
