A continuance from the earlier thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/015714.html .

Angles of a GT not usually seen:

This is where I park the engine between sessions:

rever asked about the dolly, here's what it looks like:

Lowered on the jacks, ready to roll:

Hey Denny, great pics! Maybe you can swing by my place when the weather gets warmer and give me and my dad a hand or some pointers when we drop the engines out of our GT's since I've never done it before. You can check out the blue one up close then too.

The one in the picture. It has only 60k miles, and it runs well, and I can't afford a V8 right now.

Doing the clutch, shift cables, injectors, and exhaust manifolds.

Hey Joe! You bet! Been wanting to see the blue one.

Some "must haves": At least two good floor jacks, six good jack stands, and the support rig made of 4X4s like Jim and I have. It would also be nice to have the dolly shown in here, but not absolutely necessary.

Dunno, didja lose one in there?

BTW, Ski's house will be fine for the manifolds, or I will be at Dr. Gilbert's on Saturday to have my tranny checked. LMK.

Great pics denny ! so just take the tires off and pull it huh!!!
So now would be a good time to change the struts , the cradle bushings, and clean up the engine bay ?
How hard would it be to lower the car back down a little ?? to like work on the bay? too much trouble?? more hassle than worth?
When taking the exhaust off will you just take the manifolds off only? or piece it apart for ease?

Yes, good time to do all that.

Lower away! Last time I had the engine out I did just that.

And since I was taking the tranny off, too, I removed the Y-pipe.

Make sure you have lots of penetrating oil handy, and use it liberally at least 24 hours before disassembling anything with rusted bolts/nuts.

Have fun!

More pics!

This is what I'd call a broken manifold:

That crack goes around to the other side.

There there's this:

Kinda explains why things were kinda loud back there.

See that 4X4 support rig under the car, the one with the jackstands under it? A floor jack under the center of that lifts the car quite nicely.

I am close to pulling engines out of 3 88's. What are the dimensions of your wooden dolly. I was going to make one 24 inches by 34 inches out of 2 x 6 lumber. Having dimensions from an exhisting dolly would help. Have a 3 ton engine hoist, instead of jacking up I am going to lift with hoist.

Here's a crude drawing:

Sorry, it's all I have.

The side pieces are 4X4's.

The front and back pieces are 2X4's.

The casters are, I believe, 3-1/2" from home depot, rated at 200 lb. ea.

Everything was assembled with lag bolts.

Use a sawzall with a carbide blade(masonry +tile) I used one blade to make 8 cuts on my car. It's still good.

Had a pretty successful day today.

Got the tranny apart:

That part that Skitime is pointing to, and it's mate in there somewhere, we couldn't figger out where they were supposed to go in the tranny.

Thanks for the manifolds, Fleabit!

Here is the cleaned and reassembled tranny:

Everything inside was fine, but we needed to replace the shifter shaft.

TooManyFieros welded my downpipe flange nuts back on, but I didn't get a picture.

Many thanks to Jim and Cindy, greatest hosts in the world!

And thanks to Skitime for his many astute observations (smart ass remarks).

The RAM T.O. bearing is nice, already lubed and sealed:

Finished as much as I can till I get the exhaust manifolds milled:

Fixed the rust areas on the subframe, and painted it. Getting close to reinstall!
