It was fun, and thank again to Travis for setting it up, and Ed for the time on the dyno. Smoked the dual friction clutch the first run, but it came back for the second pull. Wasn't too anxious to keep making pulls, I got there late and it was Sat, so I was happy with one pull. I think I was pretty close to the 207 hp prediction (242 flywheel HP with the 17% driveline loss factor), and I knew it wasn't a rev king, topping out at 4.8-5k. I really enjoy it, cept somtimes the trans doesn't want to go into gear (any gear) for some reason. Trav and Ed told me its the fluid getting too hot, I'll change it out to DOT 5.1 like they recommened when I get her back to IL.
Chris made on hell of a machine, I feel lucky to have the opportunity to buy it.
BTW, Chris did some last minute 'modifications' to get some air flowing through the radiator and out, I'll let everyone in on it when I get some pics. He said the car is running 10 degrees cooler on his 300+ mile trip from FL to Atlanta. More to come.
sure man anytime... and MAN did he ever toast the clutch.. its rolling at 20mph @ 2000rpm.. ed says GO.. BBBAD jumps on it and RRAAAAAAAP!.. thats it.. about 2 seconds from 2000rpm to 6000rpm.. uum NO it's not 1200HP.. so i'm lookin at Ed... hes looking at the dyno and it reads like 110hp and 140lbft.. then the genius of Ed.. "uum lets try that again... and make sure its in 4th.." Jeff checks to make sure it was and YEP it's still in 4th.. ed "ok.. ease on the the throttle till we know it's gunna hold then go..." ok cool worked that time.. and NO NASTY SMELL! it sounds sSOOOOO SWEET!

Congrats on the new car, I can't wait to see it at ElPaso. I'm trying to get 3 customer cars done in the next 2 weeks and a V-8 car for me to drive to ElPaso, so I put in 13 hours today.
Ok, the whole reason I wrote this was to ask someone to identify the people in the pictures.
Thanks
Archie

Oh man. All I can say is "Schweet!" <doing my best Eric Cartman voice> First "running" V-8 Fiero I've ever seen. And did it ever run! My wife saw the pics and even she was impressed. (She doesn't especially like Fieros.) Sorry I didn't hang around while y'all did the hot lap of the neighborhood. I knew if I got a ride in it, that I would want one. And I don't have the funds to buy one, or the time to build one. Jeff, Ya' did good! Nice ride!

Seems like everyone is using the Blades now, but I still love them. I had a set on my Blue Chop Top Car and a set on my IMSA car and I'm looking for a set for my Finale.
uum thats not dyno related..its a crappy camera issuse... it has problems understnding DARK in the shop and full sun directly on a PERFECT BRIGHT red paint job... as for the dyno its 2 3600lb drums about 4' tall (all underground) a computer tied to the drum measures how long it takes for the car straped down to spin the drum to the engine redline.. takes that time and the rpm of the drum to determine HP and torque... for more dyno info see www.dynojet.com

1FST2M6, What kind of V-8 is in this car? Is it a 350 chevy? Is it stock, or has it been heavily modified? Also, what type of V-8 kit is it? I've been looking for someone who has a dyno. I'd like to test my car. This would give my an idea of how good a job I did on the rebuild, and what difference, if any, did the modifications I made make? I don't know how much it costs to dyno a car, but if it's real expensive, then it's not worth it for an engine slightly modified from stock.

its a stock block, pistons and heads out of a police interceptor (350cid) running 93 pump gas, Edelbrock 600cfm vacuum secondaries, with sinle plane edelbrock intake. used Archies kit.. and a nice kit it is! Thanks for posting the other pics you had Steve... to run on the dyno is $65 for 3 pulls... HP/TQ baseline.. you can fiddle with what ever, pull it again, and repeat or you can do an all gear/top speed run. and uum GTBastard.. keep your mouth shut or no one will ever let me play with their toys.. EVER!.. if i may borrow a line from Dustin Hoffman "...I'm a good driver.. yeah.. "

I would just like to say that i think that car is sweet as hell. Very, very nice job whoever built it. I'd also like to know what you paid for it, if you dont mind me asking. Would just like to see what a car like that is going for. As for the side scoups on the 1/4's, never seen better looking ones!
Geesh torque monster. I wanna see 1/4 times!
------------------ Mike LeCompte 86 Fiero GT 3.2L w/ Nitrous
I just thought I'd post a little follow-up to the whole experience.
About 1,000 miles was put on the car for the entire weekend (and countless gallons of gas...sheeesh). Cruise speed at around 70-75 mph consisted of about 2.2-2.6k rpms, which isn't bad, but I know it could of done it easily at 1.6-1.9k with all of its torque. I was getting around 140-150 miles per fill up (smaller 10 gal tank), but I really wasn't on "E" yet. The weather outside was probably in e upper 80's to lower 90's, and the engine temps didn't move from 190 degrees, but when the AC was on (yes, it works GREAT), temps climbed to around 210-220. I wasn't comfortable with those temps on her maiden voyage home (Chris swears its fine at those temps, and has ran them a little hotter without any problems), so no AC was used and it didn't move from 190.
The dyno numbers weren't the most spectacular in the world, but you have to remember its a stock longblock (stock heads/cam) blowing through a stock exhaust manifold. This stock longblock was probably rated at 190 flywheel HP, which is about 160 rwhp. If you go along that theory, the intake/exhaust mods upped it 47 rwhp to the 207 posted, which would be around 240 flywheel HP. I really would of thought the HP/Torque would of been shifted more right of the RPM ban because of the single plane manifold, but it wasn't. I might experiment with different intake manifolds/carbs to see how it reacts. The exhaust probably made it make more torque than if it were straight duals without a crossover. Its a custom piece that follows the same theory as the stock V6 system, so there is balance between the two cylinder banks. I probably won't take it to the strip anytime soon, I have the Mustang for that (I'm almost positive the Stang is making 2.5 times the power of the 350). Like I was talking with Chris, this is an 'excellent' base to work from. If more power is desired, its just a heads/cam/carb swap away.
I also want to mention about the ride, with the eibach springs and KYB shocks, I was hard pressed to tell any difference from my stock suspension 87 GT ride. I didn't think that would happen.
I'll post more as I learn more about this car, and maybe do a detail web site.
Thanks for the pics Travis and Steve, I left the video camera in the passenger seat the whole time

well next time your comming down this way toss the Mustang on a trailer hop in the van and we'll run it on the dyno too.. just to see... the V8 rides like a dream.. not to stiff like over tighend Konis and not bouncy like cut springs!

I checked with discount tire today and for everything except the tires I could get 16" tsw blades for $700, now with tires it would be a different story. But I am sure you could probably get them on the net somewhere cheaper.By the way thats a very clean car! But man that truck cam has to go! Anyways conrgrats on a very nice car. BTW I did not see earlier is it a 4 or 5 speed?

its a reluctant 5spd. its sticky and doesn't like going into gear.. (seems to be a clutch hydraulic problem) i think its pretty sweet.. for the 10 minutes i got to drive.. thanks Jeff!!
I dont know times but I know that car runs like He##! whew ! BAD GT is a lucky man!
by the way....Chris the previous owner of this fine auto is sending tips and instructions on things he did to this car and I will be posting on the website for our area. when its done I will let you know
Don't have any times yet, but I did the math and I'm guessing it should be a mid 13 sec car in the 1/4 at around 101-103 mph. It came with an extra munci 4 speed, so if it ever wanted to be a strip burner, a stronger clutch and a trans swap could probably get low 13's maybe with sticky tires with the current motor.
Robert: If you need any pics of what Chris is writing about, just yell at me. I got some ideas also....

This is quoted from Chris McDonald, the builder of my V8 Fiero:
The side scoops will be a little difficult to duplicate. I pulled them off the front fenders of a second generation Z-28, flipped them around backwards and frenched them into the Fiero panels. Per G.M. and the Camaro resto companies there are no N.O.S. or aftermarket scoops being produced. If you like the look start combing your local salvage yard. I happened to luck up a good deal on these two scoops, but the going price is about $150 each. You will have to fight the Camaro guys to get some.
