I have heard that you can put a 3.1 crank in a 2.9 , is this true and if it is what else do I need to do ? (use 3.1 pistons, what about the balance?)

You will need the Camaro 3.1L iron head pistons (8.5:1) and a neutral balanced flywheel or flexplate (88 Fiero.

I heard the Dust Buster van pistons are 8.9:1. You should check. I am not sure. I personally don't think so.
