I am moving my battery to the front and was just wandering. I only need one long cable for positive and just short negative cable to go to chassis. Is that correct? If I need a long negative cable, why?

Battery cables from any of the GM cars with the battery under the rear seat are long enough and can be had for a good price at any u-pull-it yard. Just got 2 positive and 1 negative cables for my project and it was only $20 plus tax. Swap out the red cable end cover for a black one and you have 2 long cables on the cheap.
