2.8 V6, 94 amp SI-12 alt

yesterday the alternator crapped the bed an im considering my options for an upgrade. did some pricing this afternoon and to rebuild the SI 12 it will cost me around 70 bucks for parts that I want(HD stuff). new remans(with chinese crap parts) cost 70 at the local parts store. LV fiero club offered a used canidate for 40 bucks, still considering..... next option would be to find a decent looking CS 130 or 144 at the boneyard, price is around 33 bucks including core charge. wiring and concept is a snap as im a former power production tech. Ive even debated grabbing a small case ford 3G, but I dont want to R&D a new bracket, or modify, in a tight engine bay. so on to the questions...

1. any clearancing for either the 130 or 144 needed to fit in the bracket? same goes for header clearance.

2. dependability for each, heard horror stories about exploding alternators from cracked housings. which one would be more dependable?

3. anyone have a vehicle application guide(containing either alt) to expedite searching for a probable canidate?

Thanks!

*edit* nevermind about the 144, looks to be way too large.

I can't vouch for the quality (yet), but I ordered one from eBay, and the are shipping me the '88 version, only $55 shipped to the U.S.

just came back from the boneyard. found one decent alternator out of a buick century with the short deck 3300. must have searched every GM car/truck there, apparently its a bastardized alt. results in a few days.....

for those(like me) who like to search a boneyard for a suitable replacement/upgrade, ive found the alternatorparts.com has the proper front housing to fit the factory bracket. so a CS 130 with too large of ear spacing(usually found on buick 3800's), or offset(usually found on 660 cars and pickups), can buy one for 10 bucks, not too shabby. once this boneyard alt goes kaput I can but better parts and rebuild the CS 130 instead of buying an OTS part that may last a year or so in the hot climate. today I spliced in the new connector, tomorrow I will try and clock the housing so the factory heat sheild can be used.

I have a CS130 in mine. I think it came from an 86 Vette. Works fine. I had to drill the adjustment ear to add a bolt and nut.
