If i go the route to get a camero flywheel and machine it down I have read .840 and .820 what should it be and is it that critial? is .820 safer?

.820 is the way to go..

Not to jack this thread but....... I was always under the Impression that .840 was the number. What is the advantage of going .820?

Cause of the variances in different pressure plates. Some are a thicker thicker then others and cause issues. Safer to go with the .820.

IMO .820 is a safer number but whether you choose .820 or .840 just be aware that we have seen instances where new F-Body 3800 flywheels have been machined and ended upbeing worthless due to metal porosity.
All flywheels at this point appear to be made in Communist China from low cost material. Most all steel in China is melted down old reformed auto steel. That steel is very high in impurities and as a result the material can be very porous. Some Chinese flywheel brands do not exhibit this condition while other's prove to be pure garbage. Point is ask around on what brand to purchase before you decide to machine it down. One you machine it you own it.
