Whats the metal piece that sits above pick up coil on the v6, Mines corooted and breaking away (buying new distrib but wanna test something) Pickup Coil Cover? Cap?

The rotating part has a magnet in it. It is part of the distributor shaft. If the magnet fails or is broken then there will not be enough signal on the pick up coil. You can connect an AC volt meter and measure the voltage during cranking. Measure the voltage lead to lead of the pick up coil. One spec stated at least 0.5V AC. Others have stated 1.0V AC during cranking.

Its the pole piece for the pick up coil. Here is a pic from the parts book. #7 I believe.

is it suppost to come off? Is it replaceable? Or New Distrib time, the inside of it is all rusted and cracked out the ring exist but there nothing inside itt.
