i bought an 86 gt a few weeks ago and it needs a transmission. it wont go into reverse. if possible i'd like to put a straight drive transmission. i dont want to have to modify the mounts or whatever. id like to just have to add the parts that operate the straight drive and bolt the trans right up. if anyone can tell me anything about this or if theres a writeup for it. thanks for any help

I'm swapping out a Auto to manual too I know you need to buy a clutch pedal I got mine from TFS but I think you have to get the extra bracket for the clutch pedal from a donor fiero. as well as the slave and res and all.

Auto to manual:
You will need (if you want a factory appearance),

Steering column and ignition switch for a manual
Pedal assembly, including master cylinder and clutch pedal
Clutch line and slave cylinder
shifter assembly and interior shifter surround plate
Shift cables for the transmission you choose
manual transmission ECM, and manual transmission & engine wire harness (or adapt yours)
interior harness for clutch safety switch, cruise control cut out, etc (or adapt yours as needed)
radiator
a GM Metric bellhousing bolt patern, Getrag 282MT2, or F23, Muncie MG2, or MG1 plus mount brackets for the transmission (rubber mounts are the same for auto or man)
flywheel, clutch & clutch cover, and through-out bearing for the engine and transmission combination you're using
Axles

The amount of work is up to you, much of that could be left undone, or worked around.

Have you considered getting a 4T60 (or 440-T4) 4 speed auto for a swap?
The rest of the car is setup for it already, and that would give you better gas mileage and performance for less money.

-Dave

Remember also that the 88 2.8 flywheel is balanced differently than the 85-87. Wrong flywheel/engine combo and the engine will vibrate badly.

Some of my pictures / links might be helpful to you. I started doing this swap before I had to move and put my car into storage, but I got everything forward of the engine bay completed: http://www.pontiacperforman...et/car87FieroSE.html

Click on the symbols under the main picture for the break-down and individual sections.
