Hello everyone. Well I have a 4.9 from a 92 Eldorado that the valves were bad. When the heads were pulled three of the bolts pulled the threads from the block. Now before everyone starts attacking me for my choice of swap material can anyone help with the helicoil or timesert install. I have looked up the kits that are for the 12 x 1.75 x 33mm insert and the cost as much as the engine did in the first place. Since there is alot of work going into installing this engine I want to be able to install a fresh rebuilt engine. I am located in Orlando Florida area. If anyone knows of a shop that could repair the pulled threads or knows of a cheap used kit that I could purchase/borrow I would greatly appreciate it.
If you don't already have alot of work done to that block already, I would personally just find myself another 4.9, and heat up the area of the threads before removing the head bolts to help prevent threads from pulling out. I haven't looked into inserts like that, and even if you found an insert, you have to make your own tools pretty much to be able to reach down that far into the "channel" and drill it/tap it etc.

I would suggest sending a PM to Fieroseverywhere, Raydar, olejoedad or Carver1 as they are the resident 4.9 gurus on the forum. I am in the middle of a 4.9 swap myself with the help and guidance of Fieroseverywhere and I have yet to find a question he doesn't know the answer to... I would call him and ask him about your block for you, but it's his birthday this weekend and he's with family.
It a regular hold down bracket and there is definitely a bolt hole
It's the same size as the v6 bracket if you have a spare

So you payed too much for an engine and it ended up bad? Did you not get a warranty or is it out of?
Around here you can get low mile 4.9s for about $350 with a 90 day warranty. Just a quick peak at car-part.com, you have a gazillion motors near your for less than $300
Take anything you've done and transfer it over to another motor

I know that this info may come a bit too late but 4.9L head bolts must be removed using a little heat and a breaker bar. An impact wrench almost always pulls the block threads out. If there is a way to fix those threads you'll need a pretty large dril and tap set for the helicoils. Also "torque to yield" head bolts must be used in that engine. Very hard to find 4.9L head bolts at this point.

There are several 4.9's in my local pull-a-part..seems like most have higher amount of miles, but it would only cost you about $175 for one. Gotta pull it yourself though.

There are at least 5 near him for ~$300 with 100k or under
If he wanted to have it delivered or to pick it up, there is one with 77k on it for $200 w/ 100 day warranty
