My 88 (4cyl, 5speed) recently started to shift hard, so after reading that this could be from a bad pedal I decided to start there and purchase a new steel pedal from The Fiero Store. It went in fairly easy, but when I went to attach the rod from the master cylinder to the pedal, the hole is too small and will not slide on to the pedal. It fits perfect on the old pedal. I guess I could drill the hole out to get it to fit, or grind it out with the dremel?

The master cylinder looks to be the 2nd generation type, with the tank in the middle and the plastic going over the sides.

Has anyone else ran into this?

There are 2 sizes of 'banjo' hole.....in the rod.....early and late... a DIY fix is not advisable there.

I doubt the pedal will fix it your problem is in the hydralics.
The 88 pedal is already steel and little problems with a bent pedal exists.

Yea, I kinda figured that ...... the pedal was too easy ;-)

So i guess put the old pedal back in, and start with bleeding the system?

Have you checked the cables? Hard shifting on a Fiero is often the result of gummed up cables.

It is smooth when the engine isn't running, so I didnt suspect the cables. But it will give it a look as well. It was so trouble free this summer.... :-)
