So I'm cheap and decided to make myself a new tach face for my 4.9 swap so that it reads correctly. I took a scan of the V6 tach and moved the scale so that it would read for a V8. Printed it out, and glued it over the old one, and you can't tell that it doesn't look stock! It works great, only problem is I didn't take the old face off, so the light only shines through where an old and new line happen to overlay an night, but for now it will work. Just thought I'd share.

Nate

Awesome!

And the answer to my (and I'm sure, others') problem.

Ever thought about producing them for sale? Or even selling just a printable file?

I already bought a bunch of parts to try to recalibrate my tach, but that still leaves all that unused real estate in the upper regions.

That is creative!

It only takes about $2 worth of resistors to change a V6 tach to V8 (210K ohm if I remember correctly or a variable resistor). For the effort involved and the need to remove the instrument cluster anyway, I would just do it the normal way (have done it several times).

I will eventually do the resistor change, I just didn't feel like doing it right now. I glued this on with water soluble glue so I can remove it later and clean up the original face easily.
I can send anyone the printable file if they want for free, it was made for my '88 GT V6 tach face, so the 4.5K is where 6K used to be, etc. I can change where the red / orange / whatever other color you want starts/stops. Just got to print it 1:1.
