I have read a few threads on the Forum regarding the spark plug wire placement on the distributor cap and have found conflicting information. I need a diagram of the spark plug wire placement for the 2.8/3.4 V6.

Phonedawgs, I am assuming that, where #1 is indicated on the dist, it then goes in order #2-#3-#4 and so on in the clockwise direction?

That's correct. The Diagram also assumes the distributor was installed in the typical orientation, you can technically put the distributor in any orientation as long as you adjust accordingly.

Correct. The position of the distributor may not be as shown. Shown is the stock location.

To find where the #1 plug wire tower is remove the plug from #1 cylinder. Rotate the engine clockwise while someone has their finger in the #1 plug hole. When the piston starts coming up on compression continue till the timing mark lines up with the 10 degrees before tdc mark. Stop there. The rotor will now be pointing at the number 1 plug tower. From that tower follow clockwise with the 2.8's firing order. The order is 1,2,3,4,5,6. 1,3 5 are the rear cylinders with #1 being nearest to the belts. The front firewall cylinders are 2,4,6 with 2 being closest to the belts.

If the distributor was disturbed and the rotor doesn't line up with a spark plug tower, rotate the disributor base untill the prongs and points of the reluctor and stator of the distributor line up exactly. When they do, the rotor also will line up with one of the towers. Snug down the distributor. Time the engine with a light if the distributor was disturbed.
