Hi so my fiero is not legal yet (no insurance) I'm getting my licence soon but its just not insured yet. since I'm not driving. anyway its a v6 auto 86 SE. I take it for weekly mini cruises around my subdivision behind my house. Whenever I get it up to around 50 mph on the main road the engine light comes on, then if I shut it off and turn it back on its all good until I approach 50 mph again?

Its the EGR... dont get caught driving without a licence. Around here they push it back a year for you to get your license if you do that. Its not worth it trust me.

Ha I read that the other day, I live way out in the country and never drive on the main roads, I just cruise around a big subdivision behind us and get it up to operating temp. Every weekend I suppose, it's just so cool to drive. So in the meantime I will try to check those codes.

I never thought I would be old and wise....and cranky. but here goes.
IAN....you are being Stupid! For some reason young people think they have a special path in life that is protected from "sh*t happens".
You Don't!
All it takes is one little tyke on his tricycle rolling out of a driveway and you could be toast for YEARS. I WONT be your fault....learn to be an example, not an exception.
sheesh guy?!? No insurance and your blasting through the neighborhood at 50mph? WTF? I'd personally kick my kid in the ass if he pulled that crap!
Stay off public roads till your insured AND have your liscense..... That check engine light is the least of your worries!! As a matter of fact, go now and give those keys to someone who can be more responsible. You have proven to us all that you are not responsible enough.
Wheres this friggin kid live that 50mph through the hood is okay? LOL you list High School as an occupation? Might wanna try and get some education while your there kid.

Sorry about all the attacks Ian. It's not you, this forum will attack anyone who tells it like it actually is. My suggestion - next time lie. It will make you and them all feel better.
I still think it's a code 32

ok phonedawg when some ahole creams your kid in your front yard you can tell that ahole to just lie....we live in a very very touristy type summer beach town and numb numbs are at the stop sign power braking and doing 50 plus mph every weekend on our residential street. You telling this numb numb to just lie next time is really hard for me to fathom. I have seen your post in the past and am quite frankly surprised at your advice, Yes I may be a NOOB here. But am not a noob at life.....
LOL to summarize that is some crappy advice you gave him, except the technical stuff that sounds spot on.
no offence meant just my opinion

Well, as someone living in Michigan, it is illegal to drive without insurance. If this driver hit or injured someone, then who would pay? The family... then after that, if it is a serious injury, the rest of us who purchase insurance (to the state mandated "pot").
Frankly, insurance in Michigan is high enough and there is no reason to drive without insurance, since it is the law. Why take the risk. All it will take is a police officer patrolling the neighborhood, sees something he/she doesn't like about the car/driver and poof.... ticket and maybe worse. Why risk it?
Could be the VSS too. I've had it happen a couple times where VSS reading and RPM don't match, and the light will come on, and the car will act a little funny for a minute like it's trying to rev higher to compensate. And after slowing down the light goes off and I've had the code just disappear.

Get a scan tool, jack the back wheels off the ground, warm it up, put it 4th, bring it up to 50 mph very slowly as you watch the scan tool. You can't drive and read at the same time. BE very carefull when its running on the blocks. normaly I would say to have some body drive you in your car while you watch the readout, but with no ins, no help, you got to do what you got to do.
after you get busted, can i have your car? Huh, Huh?
I speed and drive some of my cars with out ins,-----------------on the race track !
Sheesh so much for this being a technical discussion thread. He asked about his car, not the morals of driving without a license or insurrance (which is just stupid btw )

Eh, that's what one gets for putting irrelevant data in phrasing of their question. If you want an answer, and don't want people lambasting you for doing stupid things like driving without license/insurance, then don't mention the latter, and only ask the question you want an answer to. An introduction of "hey I'm dumb for driving without this stuff, but can you guys help me with this other problem" tends to get people to generally only discuss the "hey I'm dumb" portion.

Really!? It's a sub in development there are no houses and I take it up to 50 on the main rd in between my house and the entrance to the sub, I'm on a private drive and the only house. I asked about my car, I know what I'm doing unlike most average highschoolers

So did you ever check that error code, or are you more interested in arguing how dumb driving around without a license/insurance is (even if it is in a minimally occupied area)?

Are you doing anything stupid and dangerous PhoneDawgz?
I would never in my life do anything dangerous and stupid. If I did I would surely never announce it on here. If I did announce it on here it was a lie. If I did announce it on here and it was a lie and I defended it, that was a lie. If I did things that were reasonable and others thought they were dangerous and stupid whatever I said was a lie.
Also I never lie.
Again I would never, and have never done anything dangerous and stupid needing discussion on this forum.

The pile on attitude of the "Holier than thou" crowd here means the replies you get are crafted appropriately. How many people does Ian need to hear from debating what he is doing? If you don't want him to lie then you have to be adult enough to let him tell the truth. When you attack him for his honesty you should expect less than that next time.
My suggestion to Ian is to avoid telling the truth to any group that can't handle it.
I'm sure he already knows it here.

Not quite a vacuum leak. It usually means the EGR control valve isn't working. That means the EGR valve isn't working. Fixable but yea not a serious driving issue.

Diagnose your EGR system using the link above and if you determine that you need to replace your EGR solenoid, then may I suggest getting in touch with PaulV, who sells refurbished EGR solenoids. He has sold over two dozen so far with no issues.
My 2 cents
