Hi, Guys,
For those who have not been on the forum for a long time....and those, like me, who suffer from CRS....there was once a posting back in 2002 (thank you Chuck Kichline) on how to convert your power windows from operating only in accy and run, to operating full time. That posting (with pictures) is available at:
http://www.kichline.com/chu.../windows/windows.htmWell, I had done it to my old '87, and just HAD to do it to my new '88. Probably not a good idea if you have kidlets, but for those of us who's kids now are driving their own Fieros it is something I find very nice.
Tools: 8mm socket, 7mm socket, vice grips or pliers, and a tap in squeeze terminal from Radio Shack (or equivalent), RS part number 64-3052 gets you 10 of them for $2.19! Becareful to get the blue ones....there are also red ones but those are too small for the wire gauges you are going to deal with.
How To:
1. Disconnect the battery (8mm), you might want to read codes first since they will be gone after you disconnect the battery.
2. Unlatch and swing down the fuse block.
3. Remove the two screws and drop the block. (7mm)
4. The upper circuit breaker is the one going to the power windows....we are going to use the lower circuit breaker (which goes to the power locks) to provide power to BOTH the power windows and the power locks.
5. Turn the fuse block so you can see the wires. The pink wire goes to the power windows, the red wire with the black tracer goes to the power locks.
6. (Here is where I deviate from Mr. Kichline). Use your diagonal cutter to cut the PINK wire and ONLY the pink wire about an inch from the fuse block.
7. Insert the end of the pink wire that is NOT connected to the fuse block into one side of the tap in squeeze connector. Slide the other side of the tap in squeeze connector over the red wire with the black tracer.
8. Making sure the pink wire is fully inserted, use your vice grips or pliers to push the silver contact down unit it is flush with the connector....not all that easy to do, btw. Now fold the hinged cover over the contact until it snaps into place.
9. Now the lil piece of pink wire still attached to the fuse block must be taped over or connected to something which needs key on fused power. I connected mine to my radar detector....it turns on the detector when the engine starts and turns it off when the key is removed.
10. Reattach the fuse block with the two 7mm screws and swing it back until the latch locks it in place. Reconnect the battery cable.
11. You are DONE! Enjoy your full time power windows.
Oh yes, Rodney once sold a harness to accomplish this, but it no longer is on his site. You might want to contact him about it if you really do not want to make that one wire cut.
