It seems too many people don't know how, or don't want to use the SEARCH function because they find it difficult. But using it would cut down on the same questions being asked every 2 weeks. (I'm more than happy to answer "unanswered" questions.)
A quick tutorial. Always start with fewest words and set to search Subject/Username. I also like to search "Entire Forum + Archives".
Yeah...would also be nice if people would put descriptive titles tho. Like "ignition module problem" rather than "help me!". there may be a thread with the exact answer someone needs, but its title makes it impossible to find. Would also be neat if there was a tagging system. O well, just talking out my rear...

You can bet the way people ask questions around here, there's NOT only one thread on that subject anyway. The others will come up. Just as people repeat questions, we wind up repeating ourselves answering them all the time too.

Well...at that point, he already found the thread he needs, he can search through it... Lol, I'm on my phone, so I can't test it, but...if you click print view, does it put all the text on one long page? That would allow you to hit control f and search within the page. Idk...

I gave up using the search, and use google instead. Just append site:www.fiero.nl at the end of your query. This lets you use Google's fancy features, like quotes, and the minus "-", etc.
Works better, and returns really relevant results at the top. Example:

I think the PFF search function is much easier for those who have been around a while. For me, I read most threads and tend to remember either who started them, others who responded or other interesting words/phrases, With this information, I can use the entire thread seach and list out the names and phrases being in there. The subject/username search is good for when I know who started the thread (and can properly spell their name). Unfortunately a fairly new person would not know this information prior to their searching and would get 20 pages of possible threads.
Then it comes down to how bad do you want the info... I have searched before and had 20+ pages of possible threads and scanned everyone of them until I found what I was looking for. I have even gone page by page in a 100+ pg thread looking for information I know is there, just forgot which page.

I just recently asked about a question that I am relatively certain had been asked before (Tach on Duke reading too high). Tried Ogre's cave but couldn't find it. If I use search I find WAY too many threads (as someone pointed out). Usually there is someone with knowledge online when I ask. It gives me a chance to interact with a fellow Fiero owner. Some of us have more skills working on the car than searching on a website. Good thing about your thread, it brought to light an additional way to search. Just like bringing up the "same old question" might bring up a new solution.

NEW questions are never a problem. I even answer "old" questions for the 1000th time - "what oil for manual tranny?" (and often with more detail than "Use Search"), especially for newbie's who don't know how to use Search yet and don't know that service manuals can be download for Free.
PFF has been going 11 years. Even a newbie HAS to think "someone else must have had this problem." (and Search will find it).
