The engine compartment is lined with insulation all around. Mine is full of dirt and peeling off. Is there any replacement material I could install? What if I took it all off and left it off, I assume it's therer to keep the metal spaceframe from heating up and maybe melting things I don't want to melt. Has anybody removed theirs?

Mine is falling out and looks like crap. I was thinking of something shiny and silver. Maybe something like Dynamat but I don't know if it is rated for inside an engine compartment. I need to know this also.
Thanks, Jonathan

Any truck bed liner can be rolled / brushed. Spraying usually gives better results however.
I Rhino lined the engine compartment and the wheel wells of a friends 280ZX (a 1972 we restored), it has held up for the past 6+ years. It has been impervious to the battery acid and road debris the tires kick up.
My fiero does not have any insulation in the engine compartment, and I am not in any hurry to add some. The interior is insulated, but the rear window does get warm, but not enough to care. (3800 engine).

I believe GM called this insulation a noise deadener. In any case, I've been running a small block chevy TPI for nearly 15 years without any of this insulation, so from a heat stand point I don't think it does much. Certainly not to the point of preventing anything from melting.

I took the stuff off the sides of my 86 coupe, but left it on the firewall. It did make my old duke a lot noisier in the passenger compartment
WCF sells a nice material for this application. Adhesive backed and a sound insulator with a heat reflective shiney silver coating on engine side. looks nice and works well,
