I still cannot find the coolant temp sensor to hook up the Fiero Gauge up to on my 3800SC. It's the only/last wire I cannot find a home for.

Someone told me it was on the block towards the firewall, below the Coolant Fill Tube, and there is a sensor there, but it already has a plug in it, and it's alot smaller than the Fiero Temp Gauge Plug, so it would not fit there anywase... I'm kind of paranoid about this thing overheating, and not knowing it. Any more ideas where it might be? Or is there some way for me to rig up a sensor directly into one of the coolant lines or something like that?

Also, if I can just wire one into a coolant line, does anybody have a source/part# for the sensor I need? I am in Alaska, so I basically have CarQuest, NAPA & Schucks locally.

Its the green wire in that connector. Run it directly to the stock gauge and boom, done.

Not really understanding what you are saying here... Splice the green wire from the sensor connection and run a new wire all the way directly to the gauge in the dash? I have a very expensive "Injection Technology" wiring harness, and really do not want to do that. I would like to have it hooked up the way it was intended, and considdering every other connection in the harness had a home, I'm finding it very hard to believe that there is not a "spot" to plug this one into...

You need to use a 3 wire coolant temp sensor. Then use the green wire from the coolant temp sender and hook it up to C500 pin C2.

The sensor is located here...

I have a question on this routing of the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor. I have my 2001 3800 s/c swap 95% complete but I am confused about the wiring of this sensor. My Engine Coolant Temp Sensor just runs (all 3 wires) to the TP Sensor. Can anyone explain this to me? Should I reroute all wires to what the GMTuner wiring sheet instructs (disconnect and reconnect)?

Only the ground can be shared between the TPS and the ECT. Note, this is a sensor ground, NOT a chassis ground so it must be routed to the pcm.

The other two wires on the TPS are the 5v reference and the signal, they cannot (and are not) spliced to the ECT.

Your Coolant temp sender Yellow wire (bin B) goes to the ECM, Green (pin C) to c500 pin C2, and Black (pin B) to the ECM sensor ground

Thanks for clearing that up. This wiring harness was made prior to me owning the car and I thought I was getting a deal. Come to find out I had to start from scratch because alot of wires were incorrect. I have no idea how this thing ran. I think I was lied to when I purchased it. He said it ran just before he pulled the engine but that had to be false. there was not even a MAP sensor in the harness. I found alot of real bad splices (just twisted together without solder and taped with duct tape. LOL. Thanks guys, Brian

In case anyone needs it, GM part number for this 3-wire coolant temp sensor is: 10096181. Matching wiring connector pigtail AC Delco p/n: PT1825.
