86 GT 2.8. 4 speed. and i love it.

i recently finished the spoiler stands and got them on in this thread
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/100837.html

currently i am almost done on my new hood. im putting on a 4 inch cowl induction that was donated from an old hood i had on my cutlass until i sold the car.

had to shorted the cowl a couple inches

i finally had some time this week after work to get alot done on it. finished up the countless hours of sanding and got a coat of primer on

i went out to pick up a can of black paint so hopefully i could finish up this weekend. every time i looked they had the paint i wanted. went in last night and it was sold out. gotta love that. so maybe sometime this week ill get it painted and on the car.

about december i decided to put a system in my fiero. still not finished but its defintly getting there. due to moving and other things this project was put on the back burner. tommorrow ill post a pic of the sub. 12" FI Q subwoofer.

i started off with a base to get the basic shape and to fiberglass on.

taped and covered everything so i wouldnt drip resin over my interior.

once a couple layers were laid down i let it cure for a couple days before trimming off the excess

the hole is a spot i had to redo because of a large bubble.

i made my own jig to cut out my speaker and sub rings

once everything was trimmed to where i wanted i started to mount the rings. hot glue is a great help here

once everything was test fitted and put in place the covering began. i used the cheap fabric from joe annes. finding a fabric that stretches both ways is very important

after i got all the wrinkles i put a coat of resin on and this gives a good base to start layering the fiber cloth on.

i wanted to give it a better curve and also pick up a bit of internal volume so i added on

after i got it tot he shape i wanted i started putting on layers of cloth

its about 3/8 thick and thicker in parts. i havent gotten a chance to work on it recently because i have spent time working on my hood. it has a layer of body filler that needs sanding but thats a week or so off.

That is NUCKING FUTZ!!!

You are a mad man... its a good thing that Fiero door windows don't have a frame... you would blow them out I have to say that is one of the more agressive speaker setups I have seen... Claytonto had something similarily wacky in his car for a while as well...

yea i didnt want it to stick out as much but i picked out the FI sub i wanted and that was the only way i could get it to fit.
this was my old system in my 80 cutlass. 2 18" RE SX subs. the box was 18 cubic feet and took up from right behind the seats to almost the whole trunk. this one blew out my rear window

finally getting some time to work on finishing my sub box
here is the 29LB bad boy. 12" FI Q. i have a cadence Z7000 amp that will put 1500rms at a one ohm load. but im only going to wire it to a 2 ohm
load so she'll only get 750 rms. even still she is gonna sing

i have a layer of body filler on the enclusure. the only next step is do i want to go crazy sanding it out completly or fabric the box and save a ton of time.

I like the hood, and I like your choice of paint scheme, but I don't know about that massive spoiler and CRAZY sub setup. I know it'll sound nice and everything, just seems a little too extreme. But hey, if that's what you're into, all the more power to you. Good luck!

im an idiot. last weekend my battery terminals came loose so left my car at work overnight cause i didnt have anything to tighten them with. left the lights on and somehow it drained the battery completly. so took the old battery out of my old car and put that in and problem solved. untill i left my parking lights on all day and bam. another dead battery. first time ive left my lights on like that ever and twice in a week. go me........

im not that worried about it. i cant get my car out of or drive way anyway. we have gravel and it completly washed out in the rain we have been having. its POURING right now. should be able to fill in the gullies on the driveway tommorrow hopefully

picked up a bumper from a local shop for cheap and thus begins a new project. im using an old fiero with no title to build it on so mine wont be tied up in the process. the bumper actually came from a car that won quite a few trophies until someone bumped a car in front of them and cracked it. im hoping to get a start on it soon

i found the best way to have any subs sound good is have everything turned all the way down. then they just add a very clean accent to the music without over powering anything

yea my parking break leaves something to be desired. it once drifted into my moms tow hitch on her trailblazer. she doesn't know that. luckily it just flexed the plastic a little bit and no real damage

spent some time over the last couple days repainting my friends trunk. he took the spoiler off and wanted the mounting holes patched up. all together 8 holes patched up.
3 on each side then 2 small ones where the acura emblem was mounted. i do not like using metallic paint. its a pain to use.

we taped off the rubber trim on the hatch by the trunk then stuck tooth picks under it so it pushed it up away from the trunk while i painted it. im gonna go back tommorrow and wet sand and buff.

and BOO YAH his parents are gonna let me use their garage when i want to paint my car! pretty sweet trade in my opinion

Agreed. Nice job on that trunk. You can come paint my Formula since you're only in MD. =P

I agree on the spoiler. Just waaaay to high for my taste. The system is a little outlandish, but why the hell not. If you lose in a race, you can break their windows turning that bad boy up. lol

finally got around to working on the sub enclosure and speaker pods.

i screwed in little blocks to hold the piece in place.

took me almost 2 hours and 4 episodes of MASH to get the fabric on there just right. used spray glue.

i have it mounted in my car now and all that is left is hook up the wiring for the amp and sub. i need to find my old fuses in the attic and im set. should only take another hour or so once i get everything i need to finish. the speakers are hooked up and i love how they sound. they're right behind your head so i actually have the volume lower then i used to and i have hear it a lot better.

got it in just haven't had a chance to mount the amp and sub. which is good because i have to take it out to get to the ECU. have to drop the engine out again to mess with the clutch. what fun....

since i put the cowl on the front of the hood wont line up and pinches if i try to open the hood all the way. so to get around this i picked up 2 sets of hood pins and i removed the front hinges. no instead of opening forward it just rests on the pins and lifts straight up.

Some of your mods aren't to my taste, but your body experience is really shining through. Your sub and pod enclosure is definitely unique, again not my taste, but it looks great! I'm loving the cowl, and watching your build closely. A plus for you!

thanks! not gonna lie i know some of my mods are a bit tacky but im having a lot of fun doing them and learning a ton as i go. i learned so much about fiberglass from the sub box alone.

just got the driver seat mounted. had to cut and trim the bracket but luckily no welding was required just drilling new holes.
the sub is finally in there too! and oh does it pound. however i like to have all the settings turned down as much as possible so it adds to the music instead of over powering it. its sick listening to red hot chili peppers you can hear flea slapping every note.
