My 87 GT came with no spoiler (was painted after it was removed). Can the trunk lid springs be changed or counter weighted so if I push the trunk release button it does not fly up & possibly break the straps & take out my window.

The torsion rods (springs) can be adjusted somewhat by moving the pins. I've done it by using a big pipe wrench to relieve the tension on the rod and moving the pin closer to the firewall.

Check to see where pins are located before you "bother". I understand that the bars are different for different applications. It isn't a "quick" fix but just time consuming.
Good Luck!

A simple to install gas strut will slow it down and limit travel so it cant break the rear window.

Use a ratchet cargo strap to pull the bottom pf the torsion bar out then move the pin as close to the firewall as you can on both sides.

Just find a chunk of steel flat stock that weighs the same as the spoiler, and mount it on the underside of the trunklid where the spoiler was. Thats the easy fix.

The torsion bars are the same, the adjustment is in the pin location on the hinge bracket. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS - LOTS OF ENERGY IS STORED IN THE TORSION RODS!!!!
