I made this for the Mercedes Forum so I am sorry the car in the photos is not a Fiero. That being said I thought the information is universal, so I figured some of you guys might benefit from this.

Last night I was depressed about the economy and could not sleep so I decided to get up and tint my tail lights. LoL! I am kinda a weird guy, but hey it got my mind off of things.

To start, buy some VHT night shades paint, and a can of automotive clear coat paint.

Then, clean your tail lights really good. You want to get all excess wax or armor all off. I used lacquer thiner, and went over the light three times with a fresh rag to make sure I cleaned it well.

Next, lay out the area you want to tint, and mask it off good. Then mask the car for any extra over spray.

After that, start painting the VHT. Do one even coat at a time. Remember you don't want to go too dark, because then your lights wont show up well.

1st Coat,

2nd Coat,

I put down about three coats of VHT, then two good coat of Clear Coat.

Then, I waited until it dried and color sanded out any of the imperfections using 1500 grit sand paper and water.

Finally, I buffed them out by hand using a 3M rubbing compound. After that I waxed them with a good carnauba wax.

All Done!!

Looks like something I'll do to the '87 in the future. Heck, I might even do it to the '85. Thanks, Chris. Don't tell me you get bored in CA with all there is to do there.

I might try this on a spare set of cracked 86 GT lenses I have just to see if I like the look.

And I am very rarely bored, thats why I painted my tail lights in the middle of the night. LoL

Summit Racing online. But maybe Tognotti's on Fulton Ave will have it. Or try Pep Boys.

I think I have 2 or 3 sets of notchback lenses, one of them is going to be sacrificed for the cause. LOL

I guess I have to ask about the other car in the garage. Kit car or real car? And is it yours? Not sure since the plates are obviously not from your state.

Thats a good idea PK. I thought about that. I don't see any reason that wouldn't work!! Go for it. Just make sure you dont go to dark.

Thank you! Its taken a lot of work. And I used a TON of OEM Ferrari parts, so it doesn't just look like a dressed up Fiero.
