Im the doing the Cs alternaor conversion, I got the adaptor and the old alternator out, now the problem is getting the new one in. It doesnt seem to fit in the old bracket. The top part of the alternator looks too big to get into the top mounting place. I just cant seem to get it in. I've gotten close but no ciggie. Is their any tricks, is it supposed to be really tight.

Did you get the right unit? 2.5L on left, 2.8L on right.

edit: The unit on left is for 87-88 2.5L only. All other years/models should take the one on right.

Ogre's cave has a bunch of information about the conversion and side by side photos of the CS and SI units. The mounting should be identical.

I got the 2.8 one. The bolts line up but I just can't get the top one to get inside the hole. The old alternator was stuck after I took off the bolts, like it was hanging on the thing, I had to actually pull it pretty hard to get it out

Are the holes clear? Part of the old bolt did not break off in the front hole did it. They like to do that sometime. Try running a wire or something though the holes to see if they are clear. Sounds like a small piece might be hanging out inside the arch.
