I got a 88' alternator for my 87 fiero. The problem is I can't find the adaptor or connector anywhere. Their are no junkyards with cars under 1990 here. I ordered the one from rockauto but it said it was discontinued and my order was cancelled. So I was wondering if someone has an extra adapter or know of a website that I can get one.

Advance Auto Parts has them. Just ask for the pigtail to an 88' alternator.
If you have to order it, they can usually have it to their store the next day.
Here is the link to it and part number:

You might try this number and see if any parts stores can cross it..

BORG WARNER - PIGTAIL/SOCK (GM) Item No: PT781
Borg Warner PT781 Voltage Regulator Connector

If you can't find them anywhere else you can order one from Oreilly's auto parts. Their around $7.50 plus your postage.

Or I might be going to a pull-it yard tomorrow and could see if I can find a couple good ones.

You may be able to find one on the electrical parts peg board in your auto parts store.

The original AC Delco part # for the harness is part # 8077, I took it to NAPA and they cross referenced it to another one, $16, ordered it and it came the next day, and it worked perfectly. That was back in 2006, hopefully they still carry them.

They said it would be 6 weeks shipping and like $40, it was the same for napa and checkers. My car is by my neighbors house and they are painting it, I need to move it soon, they already got some primer on it. I have no car right now, I only have my truck and it gets 8 mpg.

Thanks, TK. It’s certainly cheaper and maybe better (depending on the skill of the installer) to just replace the connector but the adapter makes the job much easier. Also gives the option of quickly putting the old unit back in if something goes wrong.

One downside to this conversion is that If the battery indicator lamp fails, the CS will not turn on. This is unlike the factory installed CS’s that use a third wire (I) to assure turn on. (The black wire shown in Hudini’s pic).

Yeah, I always watch for the lamp at bulb test but you can add a resistor across the bulb circuit that will make it charge in case the bulb burns out.
