I picked up a non running 86 GT w/ auto today. I just can't get it to run.
The car turns over almost runs and then goes back to just cranking
Here's what I've done
new fuel pump and strainer
new fuel filter
tested coil- good
cap rotor wires & plugs are good
I have the correct fuel pressure
adjusted timing
relays are good - i pulled them out of a running fiero
changed out the ecm from a running car
The relay pulls in, but the pump does not run when the ignition is first turned on. When I try to start the car the fuel pressure drops and the pump comes on and I get 40 lbs of pressures. I did a compression test -good I just don't know where to go from here.

Thanks for the help in advance

Did you swap out the ignition module?

How does the coil in the distributor look and does your tach move as you crank the engine over?

How was the coil tested? The primary (only) can fire and give you a spark but it is too weak to run the car. It will appear more yellow the blue.

Second guess, is the distributor indexed properly? Could it be a couple of teeth off?

Third guess, it is possible to get a bad module out of the box.

Thanks for all the help.

Found the problem. I was a bad wire coming of one of the fusable links. Fixed the wire, adjusted the timing, and now it runs good.

Okay, that would have been my fourth guess! Just kidding, that would have been a tough one to find. Good work.
