When pulling a V 6 distributor especially if the condition of the timming chain is not known,, you need to rotate the crank from left to right from T D C to determine chain slop this will assist you when you reinstall,, you will understand when you do this ,..It will help you to find correct T D C and insure the distributor goes in correctly ,,experienced motorheads do not even think about this ..
If you have not done much engine work check this out..no problem on the duke but on the v 6 this will make it simpler and help I D a bad chain which screws up timing
This is not a factor with a new chain, it is easily understood when you do this
A straw or softer item better to determine TDC,instead of screw driver HMMM wonder how I know this??
